Padmaavat is continuing to do great guns at the Box Office. It collected Rs. 10 crore more on its second Friday and that is terrific hold indeed considering the fact that the day before [Thursday] it had brought in Rs. 11 crore. This is negligible fall in collections and though it is also helped by the fact that there is no new notable release this week, still to have such huge footfalls just before the weekend begins is remarkable.
The Sanjay Leela Bhansali film has already collected Rs. 176.5 crore and from this point on it is a given that Rs. 200 crore would come in by tomorrow night. The film is now set for a much bigger milestone, that of Rs. 275 crore, and if other markets open up as well (in the states where the film is currently not running) then anything is possible.
Basically the film has surpassed all expectations whatsoever and proven its detractors wrong. It is quite apparent that it is not the controversy but the word of mouth that is in play today as no film can go this far if not for some good entertainment for the audience as well.
In terms of perceived numbers versus where it would eventually land, Padmaavat is the biggest pleasant surprise of the current times. When a Tiger Zinda Hai enters Rs. 300 Crore Club or a Dangal comes close to Rs. 400 crore mark, there is no real surprise since one anyways expects very good numbers from such films. However, when Padmaavat covers such a distance, it is time for celebration indeed as this time around there are relative younger set of actors [Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor] who have made it happen.
Superhit!
