Expectedly, Jagga Jasoos grew over the weekend as it brought in Rs. 11.53 crore more. Considering the fact that the film had brought in Rs. 8.57 crore on Friday, this jump is encouraging enough to promise a bountiful Sunday.
The film is certainly not a goner in terms of its reception amongst the audience. There are films that get rejected from the first show itself and then there are some which hang on to keep the suspense element on around where would they eventually land. The Anurag Basu film falls in the latter category as unlike the Anurag Kashyap directed Bombay Velvet which had fallen big time on the first day itself, Jagga Jasoos is at least fighting it out.
Here too the critical appreciation and word of mouth are mixed. However, what makes the Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif starrer stand out is the fact that it is polarized to extremes. There are some who have wondered what really is the narrative of the film, considering the fact that it is unique. On the other hand there are some who have lapped up this sheer novelty and are happy to spread the word around it being truly different.
This is what's keeping engagement with the film in action so far, something that has allowed the film to touch Rs. 20.10 crore. What needs to be seen today is that big jump that will not just take the film well past the 30 crore mark but also give it a chance to come close to the Rs. 35 crore milestone. If that happens, it would be truly superb as the numbers would be on the same lines as Disney, Anurag Basu and Ranbir Kapoor's Barfi! which had collected Rs. 34.25 crore in its opening weekend.
