Week before last we saw the release of two starkly different films with Hindi Medium and Half Girlfriend hitting screes. While the first feature Irrfan Khan and Pakistani actress Saba Qamar the latter which was an adaptation of the Chetan Bhagat novel Half Girlfriend directed by Mohit Suri starred Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor. Though Half Girlfriend that released across 2500 screens took the lead at the box office as expected, Hindi Medium that released across 1126 screens managed to hold its own.
Not on their second weekend running, Hindi Medium that received positive reviews not just from the critics but also enjoyed good word of mouth from the audience has overtaken its competitor, Half Girlfriend at the box office. In fact, Hindi Medium that has been witnessing an increase in business as the week progressed, clocked Rs. 12.14 cr at the box office on its second weekend. On the other hand, Half Girlfriend despite the massive promotions witnessed a decline in business closing its second weekend in theatres with a collection of Rs. 6.12 cr.
While the second weekend collections of Hindi Medium are almost double that of Half Girlfriend, the latter still leads the charts in terms of overall box office collections, with a total earning of Rs. 55.31 cr while Hindi Medium has collected Rs. 37.35 cr.
