Last week we saw the Irrfan Khan – Saba Qamar starrer Hindi Medium go head to head with the Arjun Kapoor – Shraddha Kapoor starrer Half Girlfriend at the box office with both films hitting screens on the same day. While Hindi Medium opted for a more targeted release across 1126 screens, Half Girlfriend witnessed a wider release across 2500 screens. Thanks to this and the fact that Half Girlfriend, that was an adaptation of the Chetan Bhagat novel by the same name, featured massive promotions in its run up to release opened on a higher note taking the lead.
However, on their second Friday in theatres, Hindi Medium that has received positive reviews from both the critics and audience alike has taken the lead over Half Girlfriend. In fact, the Irrfan Khan starrer has managed to clock collections of Rs. 2.82 cr on its second Friday, which interestingly is marginally higher than its opening day collections. On the other hand Half Girlfriend that had collected Rs. 10.27 cr on its opening day has witnessed a massive drop in collections with the film raking in just Rs. 1.76 cr on its second Friday.
Though in terms of day wise collections Hindi Medium currently leads over Half Girlfriend, the latter that has collected a total of Rs. 50.95 cr takes the lead in terms of overall box office collections with Hindi Medium coming in second with Rs. 28.03 cr.
