It’s a record. August 15, 2023 will go down in history as the day when maximum moolah ever came in for Bollywood releases. There are three big films in the running and while Gadar 2 is contributing the maximum, there is OMG 2 at the second spot with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani being a distant third. Between these three films, a massive Rs. 76.04 crores came in yesterday. Now that’s a record as the previous best day was held by Pathaan when it netted Rs. 70.50 crores on Republic Day 2023 and now Independence Day has gone even bigger.
The highest collections came from Gadar 2 which scored yet another half century, what with Rs. 55.40 crores been collected. This is also the highest ever day for the film since the numbers are even bigger than Sunday collections of Rs. 51.70 crores. This is truly remarkable as it shows how well have audiences lapped up the Sunny Deol and Anil Sharma film. Currently standing at Rs. 228.98 crores, the film will cross Rs. 300 crores in record time and then race its way to Rs. 400 Crore Club at the bare minimum.
On the other hand, OMG 2 is headed towards the Rs. 100 Crore Club and will reach there in the second weekend itself. The film scored quite well on Tuesday as well with Rs. 17.10 crores coming in and that’s not far away from his highest collections so far, which were accumulated on Sunday when Rs. 17.55 crores had come in. The Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi film is pretty much coming on its own and despite its A certificate, it will continue to play on. Currently standing at Rs. 72.27 crores, it is headed towards Rs. 150 crores lifetime at least.
In fact, the race would be closely fought with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which is also aiming for a similar lifetime of over Rs. 150 crores. Currently standing at Rs. 137.02 crores, it is now less than Rs. 15 crores away from that milestone. With Rs. 3.54 crores coming on Tuesday, it has managed to hold on well and it will have time till the arrival of next Friday release Dream Girl 2 to keep chipping in moolah.
