Exhibitors and distributors could well be rejoining. For a week that started with the new films bringing in collections of over Rs. 50 crores, it has ended quite well too with almost Rs. 30 crores coming in between Gadar 2 and OMG 2. It’s unprecedented to have two films set such huge benchmarks, especially when the Independence Day holiday had broken the ceiling with more than Rs. 75 crores coming in, and now with the seventh day being so super strong as well, it has been the best week ever for the Hindi film industry.
Gadar 2 has now reached Rs. 284.63 crores, what with Rs. 23.28 crores netted all over again on Thursday. Gadar 2 and Pathaan are the only two films which managed an opening of over Rs. 20 crores and here the film is collecting this much on the seventh day, which shows all over again how big is the magnitude of the Sunny Deol and Anil Sharma affair. As you read this, the makers are already laying down the red carpet for the Rs. 300 Crore Club today, though they would certainly be planning another event next weekend too when Rs. 400 Crore Club entry will come.
As for OMG 2, it would be time for all associated with it to open the champagne as the adults only film with primarily multiplex release would be entering into the Rs. 100 Crore Club tomorrow or day after. The Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam starrer has collected Rs. 85.05 crores already and soon it will hit the century mark. The film held well on Thursday with Rs. 5.58 crores coming in and that’s a drop of less than 50% when compared to opening day collections of 10.26 crores that the Amit Rai directed affair had seen coming its way on Friday.
