Expectedly, Dear Zindagi has opened well at the Box Office. This was pretty much on the cards, considering the fact that the film is entirely multiplex centric where demonetization doesn't have any part to play. Moreover, when you have Shahrukh Khan and Alia Bhatt in a film together, audience footfalls is a given on the opening day at the least. This was pretty much evident in the Friday collections that stood at Rs. 8.75 crore. Considering the fact that the film was riding entirely on the multiplex business, this is a comfortable enough start for the Gauri Shinde directed affair.
When compared to the other hardcore multiplex films that have released in 2016, this is how Dear Zindagi stands:
Dear Zindagi - Rs. 8.75 crore
Ki & Ka – Rs. 7.3 crore
Kapoor & Sons – Rs. 6.85 crore
Baar Baar Dekho – Rs. 6.81 crore
Neerja – Rs. 4.7 crore
Pink – Rs. 4.32 crore
Except for Baar Baar Dekho, each of the other films in the list was a good success and went on to cross the Rs. 51 crore mark at the least. That's one number that Dear Zindagi would go past as well. However, one waits to see how it progresses towards the biggest of them all, Neerja [Rs.75.65 crore], which actually took the second lowest opening in comparison, but eventually ended up being a huge grosser for its genre.
All said and done, Alia Bhatt has continued to find good opening coming her way for the films that she is doing and Shahrukh Khan, in a role which is not exactly that of a lead but still fitting in well as a prime protagonist, would be happy to see Dear Zindagi open well due to his presence.
