Ranveer Singh is continuing to be consistent in terms of bringing in audiences as his Befikre too has taken a double digit opening at the Box Office. Last year around the same time his Bajirao Mastani had released and despite the clash (with Dilwale) had brought in Rs. 12.8 crore. Now Befikre is the solo release but considering the niche audience that it is catering to the kind of subject that it has, the first day numbers of Rs. 10.36 crore are decent enough. The film has released at 2100 screens and while the opening suggests average occupancy of around 50%, it is still a start and now word of mouth will take over.
Biggest Day One opening of Ranveer Singh's films have been as follows:
Gunday – Rs. 15.86 crore
Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela – Rs. 15.73 crore
Bajirao Mastani – Rs. 12.8 crore
Dil Dhadakne Do – Rs. 10.5 crore
Befikre – Rs. 10.36 crore
Kill Dil – Rs. 6.5 crore
Out of these, Gunday stays on to be his biggest opener till date and that's one record that would take some time to beat. Ram Leela and Bajirao Mastani were event releases while Dil Dhadakne Do was a multi-starrer. Now Befikre is Ranveer's solo release and in terms of absolute numbers, it is still better than Aditya Chopra's last directorial outing, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi [Rs. 7 crore]. That said, the Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer had released way back in 2008 which means in fair value the collections are almost similar.
It has to be seen though that how does the film sustain from this point on. The film's subject, treatment and reception doesn't quite have universal appeal which means the film has to really stick well with audience and that too in quick time. The opening day has been fine but not exceptional which means the target audience needs to give it thumbs up and a nod of approval in a consistent manner. That would be prudent for the film to enjoy a good stay at the Box Office during the weekdays as well.
