Box Office: Aamir Khan’s Dangal collects 42.35 cr. on Day 3, enters 100 Crore Club

By Joginder Tuteja

Dangal-4

Aamir Khan's Dangal has entered the 100 Crore Club in 3 days flat. The film opened very well on Friday, showed very good growth on Saturday and then sky rocketed further on Sunday to register tremendous figures. With this, the film has now gone past the 100 crore mark and is now the only film other than Sultan to have registered this feat in 2016. The film is currently standing at Rs. 106.95  crore and these are Blockbuster numbers indeed.

In fact Dangal is one of those rare films that doesn't have a heroine per se and is entirely driven by a superstar playing a major role with many other actors (practically all being unknown) enacting the parts of other important characters. This is history being created because none of the other films in the 100 Crore, 200 Crore or 300 Crore Club have experimented at such massive levels while the team of Aamir Khan and director Nitish Tiwari have done that in one quick stroke and shown the world how this is done.

The film now has greater glories to achieve and it would be interesting to see how Monday holds up. By the look of things, a total in the excess of Rs. 18 crore is pretty much on the cards and that would be marvelous, considering the opening day collections of Rs. 29.78 crore. As a matter of fact if the film manages to stay in the upwards of Rs. 20 crore, it would be truly brilliant. The fact remains that the film has been appreciated from all quarters and that is driving people into theaters despite its length (2 hrs. 40 minutes), demonetization and winters.

As has always been the saying, bring on good content, rope in good actors who are also superstars and then package/market/release it well to fetch the best results. Now Dangal is the live example of that happening and nothing makes the situation more heartening than it currently is.

2016 is wrapping up on a Blockbuster note and one just hopes and wishes that the good times stay on in weeks and months to come as well.

Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources
