4 Very Good

slb and composer monty sharma had created magic with their previous outings together in "devdas" (theme music) and the soundtrack of "black". it was inevitable that they would team up for a complete album, especially after the alleged tiff between bhansali and protege ismail darbar.
the result is "saawariya".

the songs are melodious, classy and above all, pure.
each song has its own soul, so to say.

the title track, "saawariya" is definitely the pick of the lot! what a feeling! newbie shail hada 's voice is set to be the order of the day.
simple and hummable lyrics only help this song, which is filmed on ranbir kapoor. the "reprise" version only tells volumes about the singer's quality of voice. charming!

"masha-allah", "thode badmash", "yoon shabnami" and "daras bina nahin chain" only add to the powerful soundtrack; each song crooned mellifluously and meticulously by the respective singers. the arrangements in the latter two songs are simply awe-inspiring.

the remaining tracks are soothing, but lack that "X" factor which hooks one on to a song after the first hear.

kunal ganjawala has rendered some songs beautifully, while richa sharma and another new find parthiv gohil make strong statements with their classically-based melodies.

in entirety, the album has a pleasant old-world charm to it.

great work, this!
