If you go in with huge expectations, chances are that you will be disappointed. The dialogues are…  

If you go in with huge expectations, chances are that you will be disappointed. The dialogues are fresh and courtesy this film new lingo like ‘mango people’ and trends like break up parties will surely seep into the urban our daily conversation.It is just about an above average film and if some of the plot could have been tweaked, as the protagonists said we could have really got a “naya angle”. So ingrained and overused are the scenes at the airport and railway stations in Hindi cinema that it is difficult for anybody to watch these scenes without a sense of déjà vu and that induces a been there seen that feeling. And forth the nth time, why do we always need a cool avuncular uncle to guide the hero in love? The idea of flashbacks is not a new one but here it is treated differently wherein lies the novelty factor, but even though just 125 min long, the narration lacks the pace. The start of the movie is slightly non linear but 10 minutes into the film it settles down quite well into its two tracks, but the shifts between the two love stories don’t blend in as well as they could have. And surprisingly neither do some of the songs which pop up gratuitously and if indeed required it would have been suffice to have played them as background tracks. If love could be understood by giving a stolen cup of tea and in a blink and glance of an eye, I would love to time travel back to the 60’s.It was simpler then and that austerity and innocence is captured well in the film. It’s the modern version that has a problem even though aided by some smart verbal exchanges; there are some inconsistencies in the characterisation of Meera (Deepika Padukone). She’s opiniated and driven at the start but looks lost and confused towards the end .Even the decision to get married is a hasty one at that .She has acted better than her previous films but where the films lacks spark is the lack of that simmering intensity that lovers seem to have irrespective of the era they fall in love in.Deepika and Saif make a good looking pair but not a crackling one. On the other hand Saif plays the dual role of Veer Singh/Jai very nicely, but haven’t we seen him play this uber cool trans continental guy way too often? Nonetheless his portrayal of the Sikh is delightful at some places aided by the some very nice writing. Giselle Monteiro as Harleen is demure and looks ethereal. Imtiaz Ali is undoubtedly talented and watching his films truly makes one believe that the director is the captain of the ship. He has beautifully used metaphors in the screenplay, case in point, when Jai talks to Meera, who is hanging on to a harness ,about maintaining a long distance relationship. He seems to be knowing what he does and is far better than the mindless drones who rely on starcast and hype to sell the movie and call themselves directors. Love Aaj Kal has new things to offer,the incompatibility of long distances,the comfort level you have with an ex,both the nonchalance and the calculating nature of the youth today and for that it is a one time watch, but this could have been so better than what it turned out to be.

Love Aaj Kal is about 2 very simple stories told in a very new and complex manner. Hats off to Imtiaz Ali for handling such a complex screenplay with such smoothness and with such ease. This is one movie that demands that when u go n watch it u take your sense and sensibility with u. It’s technically perfect. The way in the 1st half it’s such a big jig saw and the in the second half it slows down and lets u put things together is just amazing. Imtiaz is a genius. He has only grown as a director. Music of this movie is outstanding. Loved Aaj Din Chadiya and Aahun Aahun. Simply outstanding. The dialogues are out of this world. So crisp and to the point. Saif and Deepika have done an outstanding job. This is Saif’s second best performance (after Omkara). And with this movie Deepika has finally started acting. There is this one scene where she realizes that she needs to see Saif and sort things out before she can move on and she is having this conversation with Rahul Khanna. And the way she did it was just amazing. As for Rishi Kapoor, well what can me or anyone say about him that hasn’t been said before? He is the lifeline of this movie. As predicted Saif and him created magic together. The new Brazilian model who plays the love interest of sardar Saif is also very good. Given the fact that she is Brazilian and still managed to convince everyone that she is Punjabi is a job well done in my books. All said and done, this is one movie you can’t miss. Go watch it!

I was disappointed by the conclusion of the story that was so very well scribed.... talking of practicality in today's lives and then going back to the age old despite-all-problems-cry-hug-meet-in-the-end... this part really lets down the movie... saif is outwardly boring and very predictable with his comic timing, he's typecasted himself this time around he has nothing more to offer as an actor i guess... deepika stuns.... evryone else is strictly ok.... the heavy-weights of the movie are IMTIAZ & PRITAM... it aint boring at all... music keeps u refreshing time and again....but the script could have been a little better.... practicality takes a toll which aint youth's taste....overall 3.5 out of 5 .... this movie marks a new beginning for Saif as Producer and i guess the end as an actor.... he shows what he has in the bag for us and that is too repetitive and predictable....get a life SAIF !!

This movie should not be called "Love Aaj Kal" but it should be called "Love Aaj CUT" - it seems that to try something "new", this time Imtiaz sat with a knife while shooting this movie. I hardly remember if he has got to finish any sequence properly. In the beginning itself, 1 scene says "October", immediately next scene says "Decemeber", next scene "August", next scene "September", next scene "October Next Year", next scene .. next scene... scene and more scenes... That is what all about the movie is. CUT, CUT, CUT... Of course, he tried extremely well, he is at par "brilliant" director but what he tried is not for the general indian viewers (the masses). He spreads message in "Jab We Met" - Whatever happens, just get your love and be with your loved ones. He spreads message in "Love Aaj Kal" - Dont even let your love go away. (that's it) BUT - he has to learn a lesson this time. If he will attempt to make something similar for 3rd time then it would be super flop. Hope he does even better next time!

When I say that Imtiaz Ali has rewritten the magic of love stories, then I mean it. After JWM he once again proves that he is a master director and knows how to get the best out of the actors. LAK is a fantastic movie in all merits. From the towering performances of Saif and Deepika to the songs and the storyline. Everything is so well interwoven, including the Sardar part,that you feel touched by the film. A must watch, reccommended to all. Just Brilliant....

The movie was average, the script was good but the dialogues and acting was horrible. The editing of the movie was worst it really confuses you on number of occasions. The cinematography was excellent punjabi saif was great, it is a good story but at crucial moments I felt it lacked important dialogues which I expected needed to be said. I think movies by Imtiaz Ali lacks emotion which is highly recommended in our bollywood movies. All and all an average movie but not worth your trip to cinema.
