KAMINEY
Fuperb, Fuffpenfeful, Fekfy, Folid, Ftunning, Fweet, Fmart, Ftyliff. This is Kaminey!! A Bomb. It will explode(BHUMMMMMMMM). Or it will betray you(PHUSSSSSSSSSS, no, PHUFFFFFFFFFFF). For me it explodes and HOW!!! For a person who has a past record of Maqbool, Makdee, The Blue Umbrella and Omkara, all of these being critically acclaimed though not commercially successful, you can only expect another great film. With Kaminey he might taste commercial success too.
I used to hate the caper genre before. Especially Guy Ritchie’s films. Before watching Kaminey I heard that the film is on the same lines as Guy Ritchie’s films and Pulp Fiction. I love Pulp Fiction very much and was hoping Kaminey is more Pulp Fiction than Guy Ritchie. Kaminey has a structure similar to Guy Ritchie’s films and Bharadwaj uses music like Tarantino in the film. With one exception, none of these precursor films had a proper romantic track. Kaminey has romance embedded in it and never does it look like the romantic track was forced into the movie. Vishal Bharadwaj ensured that the romantic track fits in and is very much a part of the story. Kaminey is imaginative and has a lot of 70’s BollyNoir-GuyRitchie-Tarantino in it. It is a film doing full justice to the word pulp, caper and BollyNoir.
Vishal Bharadwaj is a genius in handling romance and love and affection on screen. Irrfan-Tabu in Maqbool, Love between two identical sisters in Makdee, Romance between Ajay and Kareena in Omkara and Love between that little girl and the blue umbrella in The Blue Umbrella. All brilliantly handled. In Kaminey too he handles a lot of love and romance on screen. Though on surface there was only one romantic pair i.e. Guddu and Sweety, he directed love of Guddu-Charlie, Charlie-Booking counter, Charlie-Mikhail also as if it is some romantic tale he is showing. And thus he always manages to bring the right emotions.
