The director of box office disasters like Kyun Ho Gaya Na (Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Vivek Oberoi) and Nanhe Jaisalmer (Bobby Deol) is back with a film titled Heroes starring Salman Khan, Sohail Khan, Vatsal Sheth, Mithun Chakraborty, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Preity Zinta, Dino Morea, Amrita Arora and Riya Sen. With such a huge starcast, the responsibility of the director only increases. Does Samir Karnik deliver? Let’s find out Heroes is about two youngsters Saandh (Sohail Khan) and Nawab (Vatsal Seth) who travel all the way to the borders of India to deliver 3 letters as a part of their film school project which would earn them their graduation. The journey which promises to be full of adventures ends up changing their lives forever. The movie is divided into three short stories. The first (Salman Khan – Preity Zinta) is the best of the lot. Extremely touching, very well directed and performed. Preity Zinta is brilliant in the emotional scenes and Salman Khan makes an impact although he hardly emotes. Jessi the kid, does well too. The second (Sunny and Bobby Deol) has been shot very unrealistically which takes the shine away from the actual story. Sunny Deol bashing 10 guys at a time wouldn’t work with today’s multiplex audience. Sunny Deol is a tad bit over the top, Bobby Deol has about 2 lines to mouth. Overall, the second story does connect to a certain extent but unfortunately some sequences involving Sunny Deol are hard to digest. The third part (Mithun Chakraborty, Dino Morea) is poor. The performances as well as the story just do not connect. The pace of Heroes is too slow. Ideally the second and third parts must have been shorter, crisper and to the point. The movie also has about 3 songs too many, which should be quickly edited out for better overall impact. The climax too is a complete let down. Coming to the cinematography, the locales of Ladakh have been captured beautifully. Vatsal Sheth does well, the good looking actor has improved quite a lot since his 2004 release Tarzan – The wonder car (opposite Ayesha Takia). When Sohail Khan cries, the audience laugh! Widely known as Salman Khan’s brother, Sohail should get back to the role he performs best… that of a producer. Amrita Arora and Riya Sen have absolutely nothing to do. Overall, Samir Karnik deserves a pat on his back for attempting something different. The director also succeeds in evoking patriotism in the hearts of the audience. But the pace and the songs kill the otherwise decent movie. At the ticket window, a lot would depend on positive word of mouth. The movie should do good business in North India and at single screens.

"Heroes", words don't come to mind to explain this movie. The movie is an emotional movie with touching relationships. It shows the relationship of 2 friends, a husband and wife, 2 brothers, and a father and son. The songs are out of this world good. Actors in this movie deliver solid performances, even the ones with brief roles. It's a very moving movie and would be my pick to submit to the Oscars.

Firstly this film is a sham, The director promoted this film with top actors in the front poster cover, but they were hardly there. Heroes is another disgraceful movie from the director that has made 3 films so far. Kyun Ho Gaye na was a Super Flop and Nanhe Jaisalmer was a disastrous flop. Heroes is another poor movie that is so boring i fell a sleep in the cinema. The beginning of the film was funny and kept you watching for a bit. Sohail Khan was having fun with Amrita Arora who i had fun with a few years ago. Anyway my point is the film had a little comedy in the first 20 minutes but later tried to be serious but did not work. They are making a film about Why not to be in the army. The reasons were great in my opinion. Its no point wasting your life for the Prime Minister, let him fight his own war. If the PM tells you that your neighbours are terrorist then why do people follow? Majority of the world know that India government is high on corruption i.e.Rang de Basanti. So whats the point. Anyway, Sunny Deol is another reason why this film failed. He has ruined so many films in the past with his over the top nonsense action scenes. He punches brick and breaks them, He is a mix of Superman and Krissh but a human form. When will he realise that he is disgracing himself and Bollywood in the UK. Mithun was good, im a fan of Salman, but he was terrible. Sohail was good in the first half, Riya usually looks sexy but this time looked average, Preity was average, Dino and Bobby? Are they in the film cos i cant remember. DO NOT WATCH. Ultimate bore

Heroes is a very well made film, heroes isn't a war film, it's an emotional film about two boys going on a trip to delivers three letters by deceased soldiers to their family. The beginning of the film left me confused and unimpressed, the part where it introduces Sohail Khan and Vatsal Seth followed up by the Badmash Launde song, seem completely irrelevant to the plot and you start thinking the movie isn't going to be a good one, but as the Salman-Preity Chapter starts, you start to take notice that the film is actually quite good, this chapter had to be the strongest out of all three. The emotional scenes such as Preity Zinta hugging Salman khan's uniform and the performances by Salman Khan and Preity Zinta are great. The Second chapter isn't as impressive as the first but it is still quite good, Sunny Deol does a great job, and the fight sequence is amazing. The Third Chapter seems to be the weakest out of the three, but yet again it impresses at some parts, such as the football match at the real end.But Heroes may get boring at some parts and does have a slow pace at times. The only good songs were 'Mannata' and 'Makhana' Performance Wise is in this order: Preity Zinta, Salman Khan,Sunny Deol, Sohail Khan, Mithun Chakrabotry, Dwij Yadav, Bobby Deol, Dino Morea, Vatsal Seth,Prateeshka Lonkar, Amrita Arora,Ria Sen. Overall Heroes is a well made emotional film that will make you feel proud of our Indian soldiers.

WORTH A WATCH Director Samir Karnik has handled the topic of the movie in what can only be said as a very well manner and has used the 1999 Kargil conflict as the back ground to the story in which he unfolds stories relating three soldiers who are killed after they give interview on a TV channel during the conflict. This reflects to the real life incident regarding the late Captain Vikram Batra, who many remember almost nine years after the conflict – as he gave an interview during the conflict and was later killed in action. The movie portrays what happens to those family members who are left behind by their beloved ones when they are killed in a conflict whether it is Kargil, Afghanistan or Iraq. The location setting also goes on to give the atmosphere of the area in which the conflict was fought and goes on to resurrect what village life is like for many of the families whose sons have joined the Army and how each one of them cope with the loss. The movie seems to be a bit boring at the beginning but then it changes gear and the pace begins and manages to gain the audience attention and maintains that all the way through. It makes a change to see Salman Khan wearing a turban and not removing his shirt, however, his performance could have been better but never the less, it is semi memorable, while his co – star, Preity Zinta has suited the role of a village woman, who has to take care of her family and perhaps can be considered as a memorable one but it cannot be compared to "Veer Zaara". Other memorable performances are by Sunny Deol as an ex – Air Force pilot who becomes disabled and has had to learn how to live and also Mithun Chakraborthy as a father who is unable bear the loss. But one actor has really gone up the scale in his performance is by Sohail Khan, as a youngster who is on a mission to make a documentary on the three families. Mohnish Behl also makes a friendly appearance. Conclusion: The movie does echo the Katgil conflict in many ways more than one but it is worth while watching
