Star Cast: Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, Roman Griffin Davis

Director: Ric Roman Waugh

Greenland 2: Migration Movie Review Synopsis:
GREENLAND 2: MIGRATION is the story of a family fighting for survival yet again. A comet named 'Clarke' has destroyed most of Earth. John Garrity (Gerard Butler), wife Allison (Morena Baccarin) and son Nathan (Roman Griffin Davis) managed to reach the underground bunkers near Thule Air Base in Greenland, in time. They are joined inside by hundreds of survivors who hope to be out of the bunker once the effects of the comet pass. Sadly, five years pass and they are still holed up in the bunker as the region is rocked by sudden electromagnetic storms and radioactive fallout. Dr Amina (Amber Rose Revah) is a part of the core team, managing the bunker, and she reveals that, as per her understanding, the region in France, where the biggest piece of Clarke fell, is where life must have gone back to normal and the air quality and living conditions would be perfect. As they plan how to get there, a major earthquake collapses the bunker. John, Allison, Nathan and Dr Amina manage to escape in a lifeboat. The boat runs out of life and somehow they manage to reach Liverpool. From here, they decide to head to France and hope to rebuild their life in the crater site. However, several challenges lie in front of them. Firstly, the road from England to France is dotted with bandits and insurgents. Secondly, there's a belief that life at the crater site would be conducive to living; there's no guarantee about it. Lastly, John is terribly sick due to radioactive exposure. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

Greenland 2: Migration Movie Story Review:
Mitchell LaFortune and Chris Sparling have written a story that has immense potential. Mitchell LaFortune and Chris Sparling's screenplay is engaging, but it is full of loose ends and loopholes. The dialogues are fine. It’s a pleasant surprise that PVR INOX Pictures has released the film with subtitles.

Ric Roman Waugh's direction is engaging, despite the weak script. At 98 minutes, he keeps the run time in check and peppers the narrative with plenty of tense moments. The well-made first part, GREENLAND [2020], ended with the hope that the survivors could leave the bunker and rebuild their lives. But the sequel starts with the idea that the world continues to be unsafe. As the film progresses, one realizes that not just weather conditions, but even the savage behaviour of humans have made the Earth a bitter place. These two aspects make for a gripping and even heartbreaking watch.

On the flipside, the goings-on are not convincing. Though the lead characters bump into several anti-social elements, they come across kind-hearted strangers at every pit stop who go to insane lengths to help them out. It's bewildering that all those who owned cars never ran out of gas or were never worried about it at all. Different groups were indulging in gunfights and spraying bullets. But from where were they getting ammunition? And how did it last for 5 long years? That's not all. One of the biggest conflicts in the first part was that Nathan was a diabetic; it led to a lot of challenges for his parents. In the sequel, Nathan’s diabetes seems to have magically vanished! He or his parents don't even make a passing reference to it, which shows how the makers have taken the audience for granted. Lastly, the awareness of the series is negligible in India. Hardly anyone has even seen the first part in the country.

Greenland 2: Migration Movie Review Performances:
Gerard Butler is dashing and rises above the script to deliver a heartfelt performance. Morena Baccarin has a rock-solid part and makes her presence felt. Roman Griffin Davis lends able support. Amber Rose Revah is fine in a supporting role. Ken Nwosu (Obi), Sophie Thompson (Mackenzie), William Abadie (Denis Laurent), Nelia Da Costa (Camille; Denis' daughter), Susan Eljack (Julia; Denis' wife) and others do well in small roles.

Greenland 2: Migration movie music and other technical aspects:
David Buckley's music is appropriate. Martin Ahlgren's cinematography is breathtaking. Vincent Reynaud's production design is well-researched, while Amanda Monk's costumes are non-glamorous, as per the requirement. The VFX is top-class. Colby Parker Jr's editing is satisfactory.

Greenland 2: Migration Movie Review Conclusion:
On the whole, GREENLAND 2: MIGRATION rests on a unique idea but suffers due to the weak and flawed script. The series barely has any following in India and this would impact its collections heavily.
