Ghandi My Father is very sesitive movie. A movie which shows other side of Ghandi. A relation between him and his son Harilal. The movie is almost good to see. But is very dull at some time. Akshay Khanna was superb as Harilal. he Justice to his role. Shifali was too good.

its a very nice movie... showing the tense relation which the greatest leader shared with his son on celluloid is no easy task..and the debutant director carries it off really welll!.. you just wish that the movie should have worked in parts where they show mahatma Gandhi struggling..that was not convincing

Its difficult to make a movie when you decide to make it on Mahatma Gandhiji "Father of the Nation". Nobody like it when someone shows his dark side which nobody knows till now, because if ur doing it it means its a SUICIDE.You have to be brave and very much sure about what you want to show in your movie. We "Indians" forgot that Gandhiji was also a human being,so every human do make mistakes, some are small others are big which you cant regret in your life till you dies... This movies shows the dark side of Mahatmaji, where Mahatmaji fails to understand his own son who was an ordinary man, like every son who has a dream that he wants to be like to his father..A gr8 movie which was not easy to be made,a great courage for actor like Akshaya Khanna to understand the condition of an son and shows it in screen..This movie can be send to oscar and i hope that Akshaya gets an award for best actor next year...

Gandhi MY Father is a movie on realism. It takes you to a period in India were a man became something great, but it cost him his son's life. A son would could not live amongst the shadow of his father. This movie was amazing, it captured every bit of emotion by every single actor. Akshaye Khanna is a revelation, with his most appreciated performance till date. Make sure to check out such a sacrifice on the birth of a nation that we all love and call, "India". Anil Kapoor, thanks for bringing us such cinema.

For the first time probably, I did NOT like the review by Taran Adarsh and finally registered with Indiafm to write a review of 'Gandhi My Father'. The movie, although a good effort, seems really, really slow when you are in the first half. Though it gains a required level of pace in the second half. Also, especially in the first half again, the movie seems pretty biased and Gandhiji is dealt with just like a villain, whereas the son, Harilal, is shown as the victim of his father's deeds, always. In the second half of the movie, suddenly all the 'bad things' in him come out and he becomes a drunkard, who loses his wife, his family, his money, and starts cheating people in the name of 'Gandhi'. As far as other areas of the movie are concerned, many things are really wonderful as well as powerful. For example, the Cinematography is one of the best things of the movie. Also, direction is pretty good and mostly, minute things are taken care of. But one of the few things I did not like about direction is that gujrati influence is shown nowhere on the language of any person and it is tilted more towards Urdu which I do not think would be the case. Even the direction of the marriage of Harilal is not according to the time which the movie shows. Anyways, the movie surely depicts the other side of the father of the nation. Though the director seems to be exaggerating his point, we can say that he was not as good a father as he was a politician. And if you have any interest in the history of those times, movie should be given one watch. Better have the DVD/CD and watch in parts I would suggest, or else you might decide to leave the hall during the interval if you are not patient enough. :)

Dear Sir / Madam, Thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to write a review of the movie.…
Dear Sir / Madam, Thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to write a review of the movie. Now, I’m proud to judge One of the greatest Indian Movies. One can easily understand the efforts & study undertaken by Director Mr. Kabir Khan. I’d also like to mention Producer Mr.Anil Kapoor, who as a debut producer dared such an enormous off-beat movie. First of all, let me Congratulate & Thank both of them for this excellent & memorable movie experience. Overall movie ‘Gandhi-My Father’ succeeds well. The first half of the movie, shows us the relation between Harilal & his father Mahatma Gandhi; the up & downs in their relation; the reasons for their differences. While, the second half of the movie, opens the pages of the Harilal’s life after split with Mahatma Gandhi; his lonely life. And, I’ll say, the entire movie shows the awkward position of Kasturba Gandhi between her husband Mohandas Gandhi & her son Harilal. All the performances in the movie are outstanding. Not only the individual performances but also the understandings between the characters are mutual. The central character of Mr. Harilal Gandhi played by Akshye Khanna is the best character he has ever portrayed. Akshye have really lived up to the Harilal’s role. The other two most important roles of the film are of Mahatma Gandhi & Kasturba Gandhi played by Darshan Jariwala & Shefali Chhaya, respectively. Mr. Darshan has clearly shown Gandhiji’s mind & thoughts through his expressions. Likewise, Shefali has done a real justice to the character she played. People can actually feel her uneasiness while going through the differences between Gandhiji & Harilal. Bhumika Chawla has tried her level best for the role of Harilal’s wife Gulab. The whole story revolves around these main four characters. The dialogues are quite significant in the movie. They are as important as characters of the movie. Especially, dialogues for Gandhiji had to be balanced & fortunately they are. Audience didn’t feel the dialogues like they are sitting for some kind of lecture; this is the strength of the movie. Background music plays important role to keep the story moving. The proper use of Flute & Sarangi is really appreciative. The Traditional music during Harilal’s marriage or Durga Festival, also takes the audiences back in those days.

"Gandhi my father" is only one_sided movie. The director not exposed full Gandhiji's character. when i see the movie i feel Gandhiji is villain in the film and his son is hero of the film. There is many many mistakes in this film or "director's idea", Whatever i don't know. According to me Director well understand about human sociology that is why when u come out from theater u just think director manage both character but he only justified to harilal's character. This is very smart script which indirectly says that Gandhiji is the villain of his family ( IN THE FILM ONLY ). But i don't think so, It's just director's vision.

well, we first got to hear the name of gandhiji's son harilal in lage raho munnabhai in its quiz about bapu.till then 90% of people didnt knew about him. now with this movie not only we get to know about him, but also about his strainous relationship with his faher. one thing for sure, this movie isnt for masses but for classes coz only 50% people appeared on the first day of its release and 50% of those present disappered in th interval. To make a historical movie is tougher than making history, and if u r making a movie on lesser known people like harilal then the makers has to pass themselves through uncountable websites and libraries. And the director has done every bit to make this movie a class. Dont go to the theatre hoping to get a dose of freedom struggle, coz this movie is strictly based on son's struggle to make an identity of his own; with a background of freedom movement. Strongly recommended if u can digest a good classical movie.
