What you expect DIL BOLE HADIPPA to be?a sports film, comedy,a romantic tale or a movie in which a girl aspires to be a cricketer.well its a combination of all these genres.Director Anurag Singh tries to capture all the features of a typical bollywood masala movie and he also manages to do so.But the movie falls flat in the writing portion.
It's an awe for cricket based films like LAGAAN,IQBAL to have a cricket match and an inspiring ending.DIL BOLE HADIPPA too have a cricket match and that too with an inspirative ending.
She’s got a spring in every step and dreams in her captivating eyes. Veera (Rani Mukherjee), belonging to a village in Amritsar has a special gift with the cricket bat. And her favourite pastime is making money challenging seasoned village players to a back-to-back sixer challenge.
While Veera dreams on in India,Rohan[Shahid Kapur] is an accomplished captain of a country cricket team in england. He returns to India to train his father's cricket team who is consistently loosing since 8 years.
In a village, where girls do not play cricket, Veera has to put over a turban and beard to become a man[Veer Pratap Singh] to fulfil her dreams.Due to her excellent performance during the selection of the cricket team she got into the team. But will Veera be able to manage in the team? Will Rohan be able to fulfil his father's dream? What happens when the secret is out?
DIL BOLE HADIPPA has a patchy script. Some of the scenes happens in the movie in a amaturish way. How Rohan gets attracted towards Veera. Why does a ongoing story suddenly falls flat and changes into a love story.
DIL BOLE HADIPPA has a great start.Rani's craze for cricket and her love for her pind has been shown excellently.Even the friendship between the Anupam Kher and Dalip Tahil is also excecuted very well.Even the initial scenes between the Shahid and Anupam are also shown brilliantly.
The movie in its first half an hour starts very well till Veera changes into Veer Pratap Singh. After that the problem begins ........... Shahid falls in love with Rani and the film suddenly turns into a love story.Sherlyn adds spice in the Movie but it doesnt works.
The conflict during th finale-when Shahid realises truth doesnt makes the desired impact and even the re-emergence of Poonam Dhillon with Anupam kher[Shahid's mother and father].All this shows a complete compromise from the writing point of view.
The match between the India and Pakistan[Climax Portion] is well excecuted, though the viewer knows the ending, then also it will keep you totaly hooked till the ending. But the ending speech is Rani isnt good enough.Even though ending should be more powerful
Rani Mukherjee delivers one the best performances of her carrer and DBH is one the finest works that she has done till date.Shahid as usual delivers an a good performance. He enacts his part very well.
Rakhi Sawant and Sherlyn Chopra adds glamour to the movie which could have been avoided. They both are wasted badly.Anupam Kher and Dalip Tahil enacts their part very well and lend their support to the movie.Poonam Dhillon is passable. Her special appearence doesnt creates and charm.Vrajesh Hirjee is passable.
Overall,"DIL BOLE HADIPPA's heart, especially in matters of gender,is certainly in the right place.
It is your usual Yashraj fare – tad loud, overwhelmingly colourful, but fun all the way. Go for it."
