Bloody Daddy Review {3.0/5} & Review Rating

BLOODY DADDY is the story of an officer trying to save his son. Sumair Azad (Shahid Kapoor) is a narcotics officer based in Delhi. Along with his colleague Jaggi (Zeishan Quadri), he steals drugs worth Rs. 50 crores. Both wear masks while looting the drug carriers. However, one of the drug carriers, Morris (Veto Swarn), unmasks Sumair. Sumair runs behind him, fearing that Morris has seen his face and that he might be in trouble. But Morris manages to escape successfully. Morris tells his boss, Sikandar Chowdhary (Ronit Bose Roy), that Sumair has stolen the drugs. In retaliation, Sikandar kidnaps Sumair’s son Atharv (Sartaaj Kakkar). Sikandar then calls Sumair and asks him to hand over the drugs in return for his son. With no option in hand, Sumair takes the drugs with him and reaches Sikandar’s hotel, the Emerald Atlantis. Sadly, things go wrong for Sumair as the drugs go missing from his possession. Meanwhile, two anti-corruption officers, Sameer Singh (Rajeev Khandelwal) and Aditi Rawat (Diana Penty), are tracking each and every move of Sumair. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

Bloody Daddy

BLOODY DADDY is the official remake of the 2017 French film NUIT BLANCHE. Ali Abbas Zafar and Aditya Basu's story is entertaining. Ali Abbas Zafar and Aditya Basu's screenplay is fair and replete with some interesting action and dramatic scenes. But the writing falls flat in the second half. Ali Abbas Zafar and Aditya Basu's dialogues (additional dialogues by Siddharth-Garima) are witty and sharp and in some places, funny.

Ali Abbas Zafar's direction is decent. He has mounted the film grandly and it doesn’t look like an ‘OTT fare’ in any way. By now, it’s clear that he knows the grammar and technicalities like a pro and this can be seen by the way he has handled the film. Some of the memorable scenes of the film are the opening chase sequence, Sumair’s first meeting with Sikandar, Sumair collaborating with Nepalese cooks in the dry storage room, Sumair delivering the fake consignment and smartly getting out of the mess, the madness in the gaming room, Sumair creating a scene at the marriage party and Atharv asking for lactose-free milk. He also keeps the duration in check (runtime: 121 minutes).

On the flipside, the second half of the film is weak. It is unimaginative and should have been scripted better. Though a lot of action happens in this hour, it is devoid of excitement and also predictable. Even the finale is not as impactful as intended. A few questions are left unanswered, which is also not done.

Bloody Daddy: Official Trailer | Shahid Kapoor | Diana Penty

Speaking of performances, Shahid Kapoor, as expected, rocks the show. He looks quite dashing and is completely into his character, delivering an effortless performance. Ronit Bose Roy is impressive and is apt for the role. Sanjay Kapoor (Hameed Shaikh) does very well in a supporting role. Rajeev Khandelwal is a bit off in some scenes but makes up for it with his sarcastic jokes. Diana Penty is fine though one wishes her character was fleshed out in a better manner. Sartaaj Kakkar is efficient. Zeishan Quadri lends able support. Veto Swarn is wasted. Suparna Moitra (Riya; Sumair's ex-wife) is loud. Vikram Mehra (Bunty; newly joined bartender) is lovely. Vivan Bhathena (Danny) and Ankur Bhatia (Vicky) do well in their respective roles. Mukesh Bhatt (Rafique) is funny while Anant Manger (Nepalese cook) is adorable.

The songs don’t work and are relegated to the background. 'Issa Vibe' is a bit catchy and thus, stands out. Julius Packiam's background score adds to the cinematic appeal.

Marcin Laskawiec's cinematography is top-notch, especially in the action scenes. Craig Macrae, Lee Whittaker and Parvez Shaikh's action is one of the high points of the film. Rajnish Hedao, Snigdha Basu and Sumit Basu's production design is rich. Anisha Jain's costumes are glamorous. Steven Bernard's editing is appropriate.

On the whole, BLOODY DADDY works due to Shahid Kapoor’s stupendous performance, entertaining first half and some fine action and dramatic sequences. But it suffers due to a weak and unimaginative second half. Since it’s available for free on Jio Cinema, it is expected to fetch tremendous viewership.
