Drawing inspiration from Hollywood's cheesiest action flick 'Knight and Day' and showcasing both…
Drawing inspiration from Hollywood's cheesiest action flick 'Knight and Day' and showcasing both brawn and beauty in all previews, director Siddharth Anand didn't quite set expectations of anything sensible in this glamorous, big-budget extravaganza. However, 'Bang Bang' does 3 things well and these are the factors contributing to its runaway financial success. You will be entertained, moderately satisfied and for a big budget film these days, that's mission accomplished. The premise of all the action and heroism involves an international villain Omar Zafar (Danny Denzongpa)'s attempt to thwart the Indo-UK extradition treaty from getting executed. He declares a reward for any Indian thief who can steal the Kohinoor diamond so that the hype around the theft could alter the government's plans on the treaty. Our hero Rajveer (Hrithik Roshan), walks away with the precious gem and offers a trade off in Shimla but things go wrong with the greedy dealers and later on, he meets Harleen (Katrina Kaif), who is simply charmed by this suave stranger who she mistook for being her blind date. A bit of song and dance, action, car chase and escape later, they encounter Zorawar (Pawan Malhotra), a Government officer who attempts to capture Rajveer but a close escape sees the couple transported from Shimla to a remote island where it all seems like a vacation for a while. Some exemplary cellular connectivity enables their foes to suddenly appear at the hideout and in no time, the couple escape again, only to end up in a hotel in Prague. Here, the objective is to extract the location of Omar Zafar from his top aide, Hamid Gul (Jaaved Jaffrey) but as things go wrong upon the hotel's terrace, Harleen has been informed about Rajveer's true intentions by Zorawar. Her distrust leads to Rajveer handing over the Kohinoor to her, triggering a location tracker that leads Zorawar's squad to them and forcing our hero to jump off the bridge to his uncertain death. Shortly after, in yet another turn of events, Harleen gets kidnapped by Zafar who learns about the fake kohinoor. The hero silently eliminates guard after guard around the fortress in the desert and after some action, chase sequences and Harleen's romance on a high, they all end up in a burning plane. The wounded hero wakes up in a hospital, surrounded by the government officials who worked with Zorawar and the next thing you know, Harleen secretly transports him out of there on a journey that will take him to his home. The director takes the idea of remaking quite literally and neglects any possible reinvention of the plot. With intellect thus left in the bin, he solely escalates the action and visual appeal through the screen presence of the actors, locations and song sequences. Not surprisingly, that approach works this time around as they look stunning throughout the movie, the locations are fresh and simply spectacular whereas the song sequences are brilliantly choreographed. Therefore, the three things that make this film work are: Hrithik-Katrina – Rarely has a pair complemented each other as well when it comes to a visual appeal on screen. This is what Hrithik should be doing if he is to only appear once a year. The film exploits his talent in terms of dancing and limited action without a stunt man while of course providing enough opportunity for him to display the brawn that he works on for the entire year. This one is for his ardent fans. Katrina doesn't have much in it to display her acting skills but certainly, her beauty remains unparalleled. Locations - Meherbaan is that optimized visual feast with Santorini and Mykonos in the background of good looking actors romancing. Uff showcases spectacular parts of the Himalayas during winter that were rarely witnessed before. Prague's heritage appeal is also well captured by the cinematographers. The gorgeous beaches of Thailand as well as a brief car chase through Abu Dhabi add to this cinematic journey across continents. Music – The highlight of the film appears at the very end when we witness some incredible choreography that has Hrithik moving in such a fluid manner that makes him look unreal. Bang Bang is an epic closing to the film that also saw Hrithik in another crazily choreographed song, Tu meri. Apart from the dances here, just watching the stunning pair in Meherbaan and Uff is worth the ticket price. 'Bang Bang' doesn't take itself too seriously either. The action is sometimes impressive and often over-the-top, with many visuals struggling with the special effects. But with a budget of just over $22 million, viewers will take that and appreciate the director's effort to top a movie like 'Knight and Day'(which wasn't quite a challenge). With an aim to be a commercial entertainer that has solid visual appeal with attractive actors, locations and action sequences, the movie does pretty well. Expectations of this being an intellectually satisfying outing at the cinemas should be deemed as those coming out of an imbecile's head. If 'Kick' can make the kind of money it did, let alone the prospects of Farah Khan's next stupidity, then Hrithik and Katrina deserve this limelight that shines bright upon their night and day. - 6.877 on a scale of 1-10.

BANG BANG - Hrithik Roshan was his usual self.. His charming looks and his WOW dance moves are always enjoyable to watch... A Hrithik fan will enjoy this flick! Katrina is gorgeous as always, but her acting skills were actually wasted in this one... besides a couple of comic scenes, she doesn't do much. Danny Dengzongpa, Javed Jaffrey and Pawan Malhotra were just Ok. Storyline - being a remake of the Hollywood Knight and Day.. Bang Bang is full of action sequences, but there are a lot of scenes which are beyond human logic. The script gets weaker in the second half, the scenic locations shown are impressive... Coming from a director and writer of movies like Anjaana Anjaani and Salaam Namaste, one actually expects much more. Music - When one has Vishal Shekhar as music directors, blockbuster tracks are definitely expected, they never fail you! Personal favorites : Bang Bang title track, Meherbaan, Tu Meri. Overall being a big banner production and having top actors, Bang Bang focuses on the mass market, may make money at the box office but fails as good cinema. My ratings : 2,5/5

There is nothing in the name of story. Dialogues by Abbas Tyrewala are OK. Screenplay is of old style. Hero can operate bullet wound and stitch it like attaching a button in shirt. He can go anywhere, when ever and however. Some times he behaves like Spiderman then sometimes like Krishh. When the twist was required and some smartness was needed they preferred the shortcut of action and that action is also without any intelligence. What ever they wanted to show they shown. They can easily provide the mobile network in an isolated island? Just for some death defying interesting water stunts. This is too much in the era of new age cinema. Love track takes over the film but not the heart as an audience. So movie becomes slow in all love action scenes. Climax is the most slow part of film. Comedy falls flat most of the time. I salute to the team who had cut the promo and trailer of this film because that is far far better than the film itself. Performance wise Hritik Roshan looks stunning and acts aptly. Katrina Kaif looks plum and expressionless. Danny Denzongpa, Pawan Malhotra and other actors are fine. Music is just OK. #bangbang

What it's about: Classic revenge drama. Passports, immigration, and law enforcement don't seem to exist as Hrithik and Katrina jump from country to the country escaping the bad guys as they fall in love. Thankfully, there's a plentiful skin show from both of them and we get to ogle their bodies with beautiful backdrops of Greece, Prague, and of course, our very own Abu Dhabi. What's good: The music is the best part about Bang Bang. Hrithik has put all his muscles into the action stunts of this movie. IF you can let go of the logic, the action choreography in this movie is beyond anything I've seen in Hindi cinema so far. The movie also looks incredible visually. Each frame is picturesque and you're going to want to book a flight to an exotic destination soon after watching it. The VFX department has done a stupendous job, with your eyes being tricked even while your brain goes 'WTF?' What's not so good: Aye, I hate to say this – it's just bad this was my pose in the cinema for most of it). There's no script to speak of and logic doesn't just take a backseat, it sits outside of the cinema in the food court. Hrithik is a phenomenal actor but even he doesn't have a single memorable dialog in the film.

When Bollywood filmmakers remake a Hollywood film, I wish they would stick to the same duration…
When Bollywood filmmakers remake a Hollywood film, I wish they would stick to the same duration too! Bang Bang is the Indian remake of Knight and Day, which as far as I remember, was about 110 minutes but the running time of Bang Bang is 156 minutes! For a film with no head or tail, that's quite long! Harleen (Katrina Kaif) is a bank receptionist who lives with her grand mom-an enthusiastic woman who enters the bathroom when Harleen is having a shower to ask her why she has no boyfriends. Bored with her life, Harleen signs up for a blind date on a website. Enter trigger-happy thief Rajveer (Hrithik Roshan). He has robbed the Kohinoor from London, no less! Since her blind date has not turned up, Rajveer takes over and charms her. Of course there are people gunning for him because he has the Kohinoor and then starts the non-sense chase, which goes on till the end of the film. Since Harleen was spotted with him, she is in danger too so he has to take care of her and himself. So she will tag along everywhere he goes. While they are in danger they go from one place to another and also make time to sing a song at every fancy location. There are some terrible brand placements here like Mountain Dew-the hero of the film was made to drink it; he also had to say the tag line loud and clear, Dar ke aage jeet hai! The makers have obviously pumped in a lot of money here. From shooting in various places from Shimla to Abu Dhabi to Greece. The actors are seen using every mode of transport from speeding bikes, formula one cars, speed boat and even sea planes. If all this could make the film entertaining, the whopping budget would have been worth. There is a difference between spending money and wasting it. Apart from the rooftop jumping in Shimla, no action scene impressed me much. Teaser trailer had more BANG than the movie. Hrithik Roshan looks good and that's nothing new but don't expect any great acting here since he was just expected to run from one place to the other. Katrina Kaif was given a silly role and there was little she could do about it. Music by Vishal Shekhar is average. Only "Meherbaan" was the song that gave the full feel of what the movie should have been. And about the background score, just one word- BAD! If your idea of a fun film is watching two good looking stars running around senselessly for two hours and thirty minutes then go and watch Bang Bang. The makers have put in a lot of money. Is it wasted or well spent, only time will tell. I would suggest you save your hard earned money and watch Bang Bang on TV someday soon. That might be more satisfying.
