3.5 Very Good

Songs r nice & movie will b sure blockbuster.........

Rajkumar Santoshi is back after a sabbatical and that too with a comedy film, something he has attempted after blockbuster Andaz Apna Apna. He puts his trust in Bollywood’s very ‘it’ composer Pritam for creating melodies, while lyricists Irshad Kamil and Ashish Pandit have given words to the songs. The surprise element is ghost composer DJ Suketu and rapper Hard Kaur.

Seeing the history of Bollywood, is it so that the music of most of the rom-coms is bound to be good? After listening to the promo track of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, it appears that the music of the film is no different. So again, is it a nice musical journey? Let’s find through the gamut of 14 songs.

The album starts with energetic track Main Tera Dhadkan Teri in the voice of Kay Kay and Sunidhi Chauhan and while Hard Kaur chips in between with her funky rap. The beats and pace of the track, a mix of hip-hop and Bollywood kinda pop, make this a song for young hearts. Expert DJ Suketu has created a terrific electronic remix for the number. Follow Me comes next. Written and sung by Hard Kaur, it is like a desi hip hop number but more like a filler.

With a slight tinge of Qawwali, Tu Jaane Na is a kind of song that will win you instantly with its melodious tune and instrumental arrangements. And when it’s a singer like Atif Aslam, the song just strikes the right chord with the audience. The superb team of Soham and Rana Mazumdar along with Ashish Pandit has created the Reprise version, a must-hear number. However, the Remix version starts on a different note but fails to impress, unlike the original. I just can’t stop raving about this song and then there is another version, the Unplugged version by the terrific, talented trio of Kailash Kher, Paresh and Naresh. The unplugged version is not to be missed.

The album switches to an entertaining mood with a song like Oh By God in the voice of the power packed duo Mika and Sunidhi Chauhan. The song appears to be a situational one with the remix version having a shehnai wedding tune to make the number quite funny.

Alisha Chinoy’s sensational voice and Atif Aslam passionate crooning make the next track a sweet melodious number. Tera Hone Laga Hoon is a dream-like song and is quick to enamor you with its simple yet ecstatic music. The remix version is edgy and is doesn’t distort the melody.

With its rustic feel, the song Prem Ki Nayya makes the album a bit tangy. Neeraj Sridhar and Suzzane D’Mello get to sing this track that mainly has sassy Bhojpuri lines. Javed Ali along with Jojo has sung the ballad, Aa Jao Meri Tamanna but the song fails to lure the auditory senses as it sounds a bit familiar.

Overall, the music album has a refreshing fervor. Not to mention that Pritam has again delivered a hit with ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’. Our favourites are Tu Jaane Na and Tera Hone Laga Hoon.

The album has all kind of songs to fit your mood - if there is hip hop then there is also a song with rustic feel. For every romantic track, there’s also a peppy number. So, a good amalgamation of different genres of music to entice you, as the music starts to play.
