Pritam And Pedro trailer launch: Arshad Warsi recalls shooting with Rajkumar Hirani's son Vir for Lage Raho Munna Bhai: "Jab tak usko paise nahin diye, usne shot nahin diya!"
Rajkumar Hirani, Arshad Warsi, Vikrant Massey, Vir Hirani, Mona Singh, music director Shantanu Moitra, lyricist Swanand Kirkire, director Avinash Arun, Alok Jain of JioStar and cyber security expert Amit Dubey attended the trailer launch of Pritam And Pedro at a five-star hotel in Mumbai. The web series is based on cybercrime, and Amit Dubey stunned the audience as he hacked the phone of a journalist live to depict how easy it is for scammers to wreak havoc. Towards the end of the event, Shreya Ghoshal made a special appearance and she sang the song ‘Piya Piya Piya’.
Rajkumar Hirani said, “My first film, Munna Bhai MBBS, was released in December 2003. That was the time when films used to be released in theatres. We used to be worried whether people's mobile phones might start ringing when they come to see our film on the big screen. Now the difference is that people consume films on the small screen, of 6 inches. And now we filmmakers wonder if some notification would pop up that would distract the viewer!”
Avinash Arun revealed, “I met Vir for the first time while working in Rajkumar Hirani’s office. He was working on a script that he was writing for himself. I am not sure if it was to direct or act. He was also simultaneously working on a play, in which he was acting. He invited us to see it. He has done a 15-minute monologue in the play, that too in English. The way he was holding the stage and resonating with the audience, I found it very amazing. Me and my associate realized that we should consider Vir for this character. Ek nayapan chahiye tha character jo humein laga ki Vir mein hai. No one got the slightest idea that he was reading the drafts of our screenplay and preparing for the character.”
Avinash continued, “Meri iccha thi (to cast Vir). Raju ji ki kitni iccha thi yeh mujhe pata nahin! When we told him that we plan to cast Vir, he said, ‘Aap dekh lijiye. Aap audition kar lijiye. Mujhe nahin pata’.”
Avinash Arun further said, “Vir was honest, hard-working and a very sharp actor. He was always open and would follow instructions dedicatedly.”
Later, Arshad Warsi and Vir Hirani made a dramatic entry and audiences were informed that both had worked earlier together. It turns out that Vir played Short Circuit, the son of Circuit, in the epilogue-style portion in Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006).
Their picture from the blockbuster film was shown on screen. Arshad was asked what came to mind looking at the snap. He replied, “A lot of emotions come into my mind. At that time, we never imagined that we would be here 20 years later and acting together.”
In his trademark style, he joked, “One thing I noticed and Raju would back me up on it. We could sense even then that Vir was going to be an actor. Woh pata chalta tha kyunki jab tak usko paise nahin diye, usne shot nahin diya!”
Vir Hirani added to the fun as he said, “Mere ko paise iss baar bhi nahin mile!”
Pritam And Pedro releases on JioHotstar on July 3.
