It has been exactly 15 years ago that Shweta Bachchan Nanda made her debut on television with Simi Garewal’s Randezvous chat show. She was clearly too reticent to face the camera and looked a little conscious of being the only ‘non actor’ in the family. Well now that has changed gradually and how! One can now say that she is now more than comfortable with the paparazzi and has been seen carrying her status as a bonafide  Bollywood celeb with aplomb, grace and oodles of confidence. In the Koffee With Karan episode which aired over the weekend, she was funny, graceful, elegant and totally held on to her own ground with the industry biggie Karan Johar, who also happens to be her childhood friend and of course her baby brother Abhishek Bachchan.

Here’s what has changed with Shweta over the last 15 years, since she made her first television appearance!

 

1: Her gradual comfort with the paps

 

Shweta has been spending a lot more time in Mumbai as opposed to Delhi where she settled in after her marriage. She is pretty easy and confident despite being clicked quite regularly. Earlier, there was very little seen or heard of her but with advent of the paparazzi culture and social media, she is in news but it is just not that for Shweta sure knows how to stay relevant without trying too hard.

 

 

 

2: Her plunge as a writer in mainstream media

 

Shweta’s first brush with popularity came after she launched her own column in a mainstream newspaper. That was the first time when people began to see her more than a famous actor’s daughter. She carved her own niche and established herself as a thinker.

 

 

 

3: Appearance on television shows

 

Gradually, Shweta has been more open to chat shows and has eased up in front of camera too. After her first interview with Simi Garewal, she has been open about doing magazine covers, subsequent interviews and not to mention television appearances.

 

 

 

4: Launching her own label

 

Shweta Bachchan’s major breakthrough was when she launched her fashion label with Monisha Jaising, MXS. That proved that she was ready to chart new waters and explore herself.

 

 

 

5: A brief brush with the camera with papa Amitabh Bachchan

 

One thing that was highly unlikely of Shweta to do was to share space with dad Amitabh Bachchan in an advertisement! That was when we knew she had broken her shell and has come into her own.
