EXCLUSIVE: “You’ll get to see Hera Pheri 3 with the same star cast – Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty; We’ll make the announcement SOON - Firoz Nadiadwala

The comic caper Hera Pheri (2000), starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal, is one of the finest comedies to have come out of Bollywood. Its sequel, Phir Hera Pheri (2006), also turned out to be a thoroughly entertaining fare. In the last 4-5 years, both the movies have achieved cult status in the world of memes.

As a result, there has been a huge demand for Hera Pheri 3. Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to producer Firoz Nadiadwala and asked when the most awaited sequel arguably of Bollywood will be made.

 

To which, Firoz replied, “You’ll get to see it very soon with the same star cast – Akshay ji, Paresh bhai and Suniel ji. The story is in place, and we are working on certain modalities. It’ll be made in the same way, retaining the innocence of the characters. We can’t take past achievements for granted. So, we have to be extra careful in terms of our content, story, screenplay, characters, mannerism etc.”

 

Who’ll direct Hera Pheri 3? “We have shortlisted somebody. We are in talks. We’ll make the announcement soon,” said Firoz Nadiadwala.

 

While the first part was helmed by Priyadarshan, Neeraj Vora directed as well as wrote the sequel. In 2020-end, there were murmurs that Raaj Shaandilyaa of Dream Girl (2019) fame was approached to direct Hera Pheri 3. Firoz Nadiadwala however clarified, “That’s not true.”

 

Nevertheless, Hera Pheri 3 remains a keenly awaited film. Trade pundits predict that the film has the potential to take an opening of Rs. 60 crores, even on a non-holiday Friday. At this, Firoz Nadiadwala said, “Isliye hum par zimmedaari zyaada hai na?”

 

He then explains that he is not looking at a record opening but also wants to ensure that the film doesn’t fall from the second day. He emphasizes, “Sustaining at the box office is important. And the moment you take anything for granted, it falls. Because we hope that God willing, we can make more parts – Hera Pheri 4, Hera Pheri 5, etc. And it should be better than the earlier parts. We hope that there will be a new film released every 15 months. Isn’t this how the West operates? Don’t we get a new Spider-Man or Bond film soon after the previous part has been released in the cinemas?”

 

 

Many might not be aware that Hera Pheri 3 had gone on floors in 2014. It was to be helmed by Neeraj Vora. Firoz Nadiadwala explained, “Yes, we had started Hera Pheri 3 but we had to stop the shoot as Neeraj ji fell ill.” Neeraj Vora passed away on December 14, 2017, after being in a coma for nearly 13 months.

 

Surprisingly, the star cast of Hera Pheri 3 at that time was Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal. When asked why Akshay Kumar was not a part of it, Firoz Nadiadwala replied, “That is because the story of that film at that time was different.”

 

So will Akshay Kumar join Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal for Hera Pheri 3 this time? “Yes, for sure,” Firoz Nadiadwala assured.
