Box Office: Ajay Devgn sets a box office record; registers his first ever highest grosser of the year with Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior

The year 2020 has been a rather disastrous year not just for the Indian film industry but for industries and markets the world over. While the lockdown imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic shows no signs of alleviating, film production and releases have taken a back seat. However, now with cinema halls re-opening to accommodate 50% occupancy hopes that things will resume to normal have sprung up. Though it still is a long road ahead to normalcy, with 2020 almost coming to an end, and with no major releases in sight we take a look at some of the highest grossers this year.

Interestingly it is the Ajay Devgn – Saif Ali Khan starrer Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior that leads the charge as the Highest Grosser of 2020 collecting Rs. 279.55 cr. within the domestic market. In fact, the business of Tanhaji has surpassed the collections of other releases like the Tiger Shroff starrer Baaghi 3 that collected Rs. 93.37 cr. and Street Dancer 3D that collected Rs. 68.28 cr.

If that wasn’t enough, Tanhaji has also topped the charts in the overseas markets as well. Collecting Rs. 34.85 cr. Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior once again manages to out beat Baaghi 3 that collected Rs. 25.9 cr. and Street Dancer 3D that collected Rs. 15.71 cr. to become the Highest Overseas Grosser of 2020 as well.

Baaghi 3 – USD 3.50 million [Rs. 25.9 cr.]

Another fact that Tanhaji has achieved is that the film has managed to become Ajay Devgn’s first release to ever become the highest grosser of the year. Though this feat was possible due to the ongoing scenario, especially with the Ranveer Singh starrer ‘83 being postponed, it surely is a silver lining this year.
