They say that 'Nothing succeeds like success'. True to this saying, the recent spate of releases has made their mark at the B-O, thus enabling their respective producers to laugh their way to the banks. Be it the breezy YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI or the light entertainer FUKREY or the much-appreciated biopic BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG, the mood within the industry is upbeat. Last Friday's D-DAY and RAMAIYA VASTAVAIYA, whose genres are as different as chalk and cheese, have added to the optimism.

While D-DAY was targeted towards the multiplex audience, RAMAIYA VASTAVAIYA was a romance-coated masala film directed at the single screen audience. Even though the clash of these films weren't as magnanimous like several biggies that clashed earlier, it was the diverse genre and content that went in favor of both and the business witnessed a gradual growth with each passing day. As far as the business of these films are concerned, while the multiplexes are offering decent returns to D-DAY, RAMAIYA VASTAVAIYA is holding on tight to the single screens.

 

What has gone against both the films is the wave called BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG, which nobody had anticipated that it would have a longer and a successful run at the box-office. Add to this is the heavy downpour in several parts of the country [Delhi and Mumbai were flooded on Tuesday], which curtailed the audience footfalls on the remaining days. In addition to all this, it's a well known fact that during the holy month of Ramzan, a substantial chunk of audience stays away from cineplexes.
