Producers' delegation flies to Arun Jaitley to complain on woes

By Subhash K. Jha -

In a very quiet and secret move that could have a far-reaching impact on the film industry, on April 30, a delegation of top film producers including Mukesh and Mahesh Bhatt flew to Delhi to meet the Minister Of Information & Broadcasting Arun Jaitley apprising him of the problems such as the service tax.

While the meeting went very well, the Minister apparently made it very clear to the producers' delegation that there would be no interference from the I & B Ministry in the day -to- day running of the censor board and other government organizations.

Says the source, "Rajyvardhan Rathore (Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting) and Pahlaj Nihalani (chairperson Censor Board Of Film Certification) are connected regarding the working of the CBFC. Plans are afoot to change the current system of certification from alpha-betical ('U', 'UA', etc) to numerical (certification specified according to age-group) and also to speed up the process of certification for those producers who need their films certified out of queue. As for the day to day, film-to-film certification, the I &B Ministry lets the chairperson of the CBFC decide."
