Passport officials refuse to renew John's passport

The court case (for rash driving) against John Abraham which is still pending has come in the way of the actor getting permission to renew his passport and travel abroad for a shooting schedule.

 

The High Court had recently upheld the 15-day sentence awarded to John for rash and negligent driving in 2006. However, his sentence was suspended and the actor was released on probation under the Probation of Offenders Act.

John however now faces an obstacle as he needs to travel to Turkey for a schedule of Race 2 and for the very purpose he had approached the passport office to renew his passport which was nearing expiry. However, the passport office refused to do so saying if any case is pending against the applicant then court permission has to be taken before renewal or issuance of a new passport. John tried to reason with the passport office authorities that the High Court has granted him probation and that there was no case pending against him but to no avail.

 

It's believed that the court has now asked John to add the regional passport office as a respondent to his petitions. It remains to be seen if John will be able to get his passport renewed in due course of time; else it could cause losses to the unit of Race 2.
