Keerthy Suresh is set to explore a different side of her acting with Akka, Netflix’s upcoming gangster drama in which she plays Bhavani, a powerful woman navigating questions of loyalty, legacy and revenge. The actress, known for her performances in Mahanati, Saani Kaayidham, and Dasara, has revealed that the role pushed her into unfamiliar territory.
“Before Akka, I didn't know I could play a female gangster,” Keerthy said, reflecting on her experience of stepping into the character. Bhavani belongs to the world of Pernuru, a kingdom where women have ruled and protected their own for generations. In this setting, power is inherited, loyalty is central to survival, and protecting a legacy often comes with difficult choices.
Speaking about what makes her character compelling, Keerthy said, “Bhavani is a woman who knows what she stands for and will go to great lengths to protect her legacy,” Keerthy shares. “What makes her interesting is that beneath her strength and authority are choices that are never easy, especially when the stakes are so high.”
The series places Bhavani at the centre of a conflict that threatens to disrupt the established order of Pernuru. Radhika Apte plays Rudra, an outsider whose ambitions and beliefs challenge the kingdom’s existing power structure. Their rivalry sets the stage for a confrontation that extends beyond competing claims to authority, with loyalties and long-standing traditions facing a test.
Through Bhavani, Akka explores the pressures that accompany power and the personal compromises involved in protecting a legacy. The character’s strength is balanced by the difficult decisions she must make as the conflict escalates, placing her beliefs and relationships under pressure.
Written and directed by Dharmaraj Shetty and produced by YRF Entertainment, Akka also stars Tanvi Azmi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Anshuman Pushkar and Monica Panwar. The series will premiere on Netflix on October 30, 2026. With Keerthy taking on the role of a female gangster for the first time in her career, Akka marks a new addition to her diverse screen repertoire.
