Panic Reverted: Nishikant Kamat located again Click here to add this article to My Clips

By Subhash K. Jha, September 5, 2008 - 12:49 IST

Panic prevailed when director Nishikant Kamat seemed to have vanished from the face of the earth right after the release of Mumbai Meri Jaan. He was untraceable to his producers UTV and even to his close friends like Madhavan who has worked with Nishikant in 2 of his 3 films so far.

Madhavan frantically tried contacting Nishikant on his film's release. "His phone was suddenly switched off. No one seemed to know where he was. This was really odd behaviour from Nishikant at a time when he needed to bond with all of us from the film. He just vanished."

Two weeks after the films release, Nishikant Kamat has resurfaced. "I know I missed hearing the applause for my film. I hadn't disappeared. I was too nervous and scared of the public reaction. So I left for my native village Malvan which is on the southern border of a Maharashtra, on the tip of Goa, a day before Mumbai Meri Jaan released. And I was completely disconnected from even close friends like Madhavan. It was a loss, I know. But better to be out of it than in the middle of it. I'm returning now….in time to catch all the other films being released."

He specially wants to catch Santosh Sivan's Tahaan. Nishikant will now fly back to Mumbai via Goa. "If I drive back from Malvan to Mumbai it will take me 12 hours."
