Mukesh Bhatt to file PIL against media Click here to add this article to My Clips

By Joginder Tuteja, January 14, 2008 - 14:24 IST

Mukesh Bhatt is planning to launch a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against media. This stems from the anger that he has for media which as per him tends to go on an overdrive while in search for that one breaking news.

Incidentally, Vishesh Films' last release of 2007,Showbiz, also explored the same theme and challenged the wrong-doings of a few black sheep in media.

Says Mukesh Bhatt in an animated tone, "Media is supposed to be a responsible channel for people to know about the real truth but in so many instances we end up hearing tales which are hardly anything but true."

He also has an example to state, "Look at the kind of news which was made a few weeks back when a Delhi based lady school teacher was arrested after a sting operation. No one knows the truth but media already went ahead and painted a wrong picture about her. Is that the kind of world we are living in?"

Closer home, Bhatts were also in the news when an unidentified man fired gunshots at his office. "Just imagine, here we were the victims whose lives were under threat but there was so much unnecessary coverage around the gang behind the crime. Overnight, gangsters like Ravi Pujary became heroes with dozens of news channels and publications choosing to carry out their detailed profiles."

"Out of the blue, a small time gangster became nationally renowned. Shouldn't media have invested it's time in other critical issues which have been looming large? The same happened just recently too when extortion calls were made to Shah Rukh Khan. Suddenly it all became national news and a gangster like Bunty Pandey came into prominence. Just not required," says Mukesh Bhatt in exasperation.

Stating that incidents like these have prompted him to file a PIL, Bhatt says further, "It becomes really frustrating when the entire focus of media seems to be centered on controversial issues. I plan to raise a PIL against media for the same so that everyone becomes aware about the real issues and is more socially conscious."

Coming to the latest release from the house of Bhatts, Showbiz has turned out to be lowest ever grosser for the production house since one can remember. The film is a disaster at the box office with collections reading in thousands, let alone lakhs or crores, at majority of centers. Bhatts chose to go low key with the release of Showbiz and the film came and disappeared in a week's time.
