This time the action had shifted to South Africa and the smart marketer that he is, Shah Rukh decided to create a special jungle theme ('The Wild Just Got Wilder') music video of 'Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo Re' to suit the occasion. SRK even shifted loyalties from Pepsi and inked a major deal with Coca Cola's Sprite. However, the most drastic change was removing Sourav Ganguly from the captaincy and appointing McCullum as the captain. This move certainly didn't go down too well with Dada's followers. As far as the on-field performances went, KKR seemed to be losing the plot even before the tournament reached its final stages. Shah Rukh returned disappointed from South Africa after his team began losing one too many games and to everyone's dismay KKR ended up at the bottom of the table. If the defeat wasn't enough, a new controversy erupted with the arrival of an unknown blogger who began disclosing important team secrets. Shah Rukh would like to leave behind any memory of IPL 2009 as he gets ready for a new season.
IPL Season 3 - 2010
After disappointing performances in the first two seasons, SRK's boys are desperate to prove their mettle to one and all in this year's IPL. A few changes have been made in the team's composition. Coach John Buchanan has been replaced by Dav Whatmore while Pakistani speedster Wasim Akram has been appointed as the bowling coach. As for the captain, Dada is back leading the side much to the delight of the whole of Kolkata. What's more the team has also changed the colour of its jersey from black and gold to purple to see if it brings them good luck. However, even this season, KKR hasn't been away from controversies. First SRK's comments on the inclusion of Pakistani players created a storm with the Shiv Sena threatening to boycott the actor's films and now his team's association with Lux Cozy brand of innerwear has also come under scanner because the brand's owners Todi brothers are among the accused in the murder of Rizwanur Rehman. While SRK says his team is no longer associated with Lux Cozy brand, the ads still continue to appear. One will have to wait and watch if Shah Rukh and his Knight Riders are able to steer away from such controversies and come out trumps in this edition of IPL.
Much before the start of IPL Season 2, the Rajasthan Royals too got their share of G.Q. (glamour quotient) when Shilpa Shetty and her then beau Raj Kundra acquired a 11.7% stake in the team. Shilpa went all out promoting her team and even featured in the music video 'Halla Bol' dressed in typical traditional Rajasthani attire. The team even got a new sponsor in the form of Ultra Tech Cement and a new mascot in the form of a lion called 'Moocho Singh'. Shilpa, Raj along with sister Shamita and mum Sunanda were seen at almost all the matches of their team cheering their players. Close friends like Ken Ghosh and Ila Arun who has sung the team's anthem also had their loyalties with the Royals. The team did start well initially but lost steam mid way. Absence of key players like Watson and Sohail Tanvir also didn't help the team's cause any further and before you knew it they were out of contention for the Semis.
IPL Season 3 - 2010
Shilpa and Raj are now a couple settled in marital bliss and a victory in this year's IPL would be the perfect wedding gift they could have asked for. The boys in blue are training hard under the leadership of Warne and are hoping that they can do an encore of what they did two years ago in the inaugural season of IPL.
Months before the third edition of IPL could actually start, Kings XI Punjab made a major change to their squad by appointing Kumar Sangakkara as their skipper in place of Yuvraj Singh. The management felt that Yuvi, who hadn't really fired big time with the bat in the first two editions of the IPL, would perform much better if he was relieved of his captaincy duties. While one will have to wait and watch if this move helps in changing the team's fortunes, one thing is for certain that the inclusion of some new players like West Indian Adrian Barath and the return of veterans like Mohd. Kaif will certainly boost the Punjab lineup.
Rajasthan Royals (RR)
IPL Season 1 - 2008
During Season 1 of the IPL, the Rajasthan Royals owned by Emerging Media Group was among the least expensive franchises and did not boast of any star players. It was also the only team to have a foreign captain in the form of Aussie spin legend Shane Warne. Hence not many people expected too much from them. But sometimes it's the underdogs who come out triumphs and the same happened with Rajasthan Royals. With some brilliant all-round performances by the likes of Yusuf Pathan, Graeme Smith, Sohail Tanvir, and Shane Watson, not to mention Warne himself, the team surprised everyone by emerging as the Winners of IPL Season 1.
The Kings XI Punjab co-owned by Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia along with Mohit Burman and Karan Paul started the first season of IPL in a grand way. With star players like Yuvraj Singh, Brett Lee and Kumar Sangakkara, it was 'Balle Balle' time for Kings XI Punjab as they made their way to the Semis of the first edition of IPL. Every time any of her players hit a six or took a wicket, Preity could be seen cheering from the stands. The bubbly actress even gave 'jadoo ki jhappis' to all her players which was more than enough incentive for them to perform well. However, one bad match against the Chennai Super Kings and the Kings XI Punjab were knocked out of the tournament in the semis. Their journey in Season 1 was as colourful as their music video featuring 'Bhangra King'- Daler Mehndi. The only sore point in the tournament apart from their semi-final exit was the infamous slap-gate controversy that took place when Mumbai Indians' Harbhajan Singh gave one tight slap to Kings XI Punjab's S. Sreesanth after a heated on-field altercation. In spite of some really tight victories in Season 1, it's strange that Kings XI Punjab is still remembered for that one incident. After all who can forget the sight of Sree crying like a baby?
IPL Season 2 - 2009
By the time IPL Season 2 started in South Africa, Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia, who were once a couple, had parted ways. The duo, who stuck to each other like glue, throughout IPL Season 1 were seen cheering their team albeit differently. With some new sponsors like Emirates etc. on board, Kings XI Punjab were expected to fire in a big way. Despite their skipper Yuvraj taking a hat-trick in the same ground of Kingsmead Durban where he smacked 6 sixes, the boys in red and grey never really took off and failed to make the semis much to Preity's disappointment.

Not just the aam junta, even our filmy folk would be glued on to the TV sets cheering for Shah Rukh, Preity or Shilpa's team. With sjust a few days to go for the opening night, we bring you a brief overview of how the three teams owned by Bollywood stars namely SRK's Kolkata Knight Riders, Preity Zinta's Kings XI Punjab and Shilpa Shetty's Rajasthan Royals
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
IPL Season 1 - 2008
The first season of IPL kick started in a grand way for Shah Rukh and Juhi's Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). With some big sponsors like Nokia, Star Plus and Reebok backing the team, the men in black and gold led by the Prince of Kolkata- Sourav Ganguly looked to be in destructive form especially after Brendon McCullum smashed a record 158* in the opening match. SRK's good friends from the industry comprising of Arjun and Mehr Rampal, Sajid Khan, Mushtaq Shiekh etc., were often seen cheering the Knight Riders from the stands and the crowds at Eden Gardens went crazy dancing to 'Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo Re' every time Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar knocked over the stumps. However, the excitement was short-lived as a few dismal performances followed thereafter and before you knew it the Knight Riders were out of the tournament. This was one time when Shah Rukh couldn't say 'Picture Abhi Baaki Hai Mere Dost'
