Even though there are an abundance of creature references available, the team chose to stick to their roots as a reference for the concept design. The 'Brahmarakshasha' was an imposing character from Indian mythology, which is the inspiring force the team decided to work upon. Talking about conceiving the look of the creature Hima says, "The design was provided by Vikram and based on this concept we developed the Creature over several weeks to the satisfaction of the entire team."
It is crucial that the VFX team achieves photorealism to add credibility to the film, while there were an array of shots which stood out, Hima acknowledges that the film's climax was the best part in the entire VFX sequence. Giving us a gist on the overall VFX Hima says, "Thanks to G.Villavan Kothai our creative head, K.V.Sanjit the VFX supervisor, E. Venkatesan the VFX producer of the film and with the help of the 50 artists who were onboard made this possible to enhance the experience for the audience. Doing a creature animation without any known references is a challenge, but we are proud that we achieved what Vikram had envisioned."
Spanning over 6 months with about 50 artists, the team at Prasad took an entire year to accomplish the VFX feat from the concept design stages, to pre-visualization of the sequences and then the final delivery of the meticulous 3D shots. Talking about the intricacies of the digital production Hima says, "We did a detailed study on the look, expression and walk cycle of the creature using different poses to test the 3D rigged character to check for the extremes and in various rounds got feedback to tweak things according to the director's vision"
Creature 3D, directed by Vikram Bhatt is an important milestone in Bollywood, as this is the first film that has a complex 3D character throughout the movie in an astounding 375 shots. Prasad EFX, south Indian VFX giants was roped in to achieve the visual effects, Digital Intermediate (DI) and also the complete 3D post solutions for the film. Talking about their association and the challenges in making such a film for Indian Cinema Hima Kumar, vice president for VFX and DI says, "This was a very intricate and challenging process since we had to ensure from the beginning that the creature needed to look credible in the film and Prasad EFX brought Vikram's vision to life on screen.
