"In this scene, a troubled Karthik roams around the city not ready to go back home until much later at night. The scene was to be shot post sunset. We needed dark blue skies that would register on camera as night. We got to the location early and ended up waiting for almost an hour. Here Farhan and I are seen generally chit chatting before the daylight reduces."
Last month's release Karthik Calling Karthik (KCK) starring Farhan Akhtar and Deepika Padukone had many beautiful moments between its lead pair. The film, helmed by debutant director Vijay Lalwani, was appreciated for its novel theme and different treatment. While the film does have a serious theme, there was enough masti and dhamaal on the sets to keep the cast and crew entertained. Bollywood Hungama got director Vijay Lalwani to share some exciting action that took place on the sets of KCK. So over to you Vijay…
Location: Bandstand Fort, Bandra, Mumbai
"Here we are seen rehearsing and blocking for the break up scene. We were to originally shoot this on the fort rocks by the sea but the rains prevented us from doing so. Hence, we build a shack around one of the tea stalls near the fort and tried to retain the gloomy outdoor ambience the scene required. To ensure the rain would be consistent we hired rain machines to add to the inconsistent drizzle already present.
Here Karthik's character has his first outburst with Shonali. This is the only scene where we see a vocal and aggressive Karthik. Farhan, Deepika, the dialogue supervisor and me are seen in this pic."
"Farhan is seen mounted with a Body Rig. A 235 Camera is loaded onto it so when the actor moves, a locked camera mounted on his body moves with him. The end result makes the background appear moving, but the actor steady in the foreground. The whole contraption is about 12- 16 kilos. So between shots it's important for one to rest. Farhan is seen catching a few minutes of rest while the camera gets reloaded. Because the rig is still locked onto him he can't sit on anything else but a low stool."
"This is just a random pic in which Farhan is telling me one of his numerous stories related to films and filmmaking. I think we both were doing an impersonation of a certain scene from an old Hindi movie. All of course while we were on break. "
"Here you can see me entangling Farhan with the telephone cables. Later I had to pull the cables hard to get a close up of his neck getting pressed by the cable."
"Right after I called Cut, Farhan collapsed. I wasn't sure if he was catching his breath or if I had cut all the oxygen supply to his head and he had become unconscious. After about 8 minutes of pretending to have fainted, Farhan jumped up and startled me. I was about to call an ambulance. Phew!"
