Moving beyond one-time relief efforts, the program is designed to address ongoing essential needs and enhance the overall quality of life for those working behind the scenes in Indian cinema.
Under the 2026 edition of the Saathi Program, registered film industry workers across recognised unions will be eligible to receive assistance that spans multiple aspects of daily living. The initiative focuses on monthly household support to improve food security, healthcare assistance including access to medicines and diagnostic services, and education aid for children pursuing school and college studies. In addition, beneficiaries will receive essential travel support, including provisions for annual visits to their hometowns.
A key highlight of the program is its emphasis on vulnerable segments within the film workforce. Retired workers aged 60 years and above, as well as persons with disabilities, will receive special consideration in view of their increased healthcare requirements and limited earning opportunities. By prioritising these groups, the Foundation aims to create a safety net for those who have contributed to the industry over decades.
Eligibility criteria for the Saathi Program include active film workers registered with recognised unions, low-income households, families with school- or college-going children, and older workers managing ongoing medical needs. The 2026 edition also introduces several enhancements to strengthen year-round impact. These include increased annual support allocations per beneficiary, more flexible benefit structures that allow assistance to be tailored to individual requirements, expanded healthcare prioritisation for diagnostics and treatment access, and simplified digital delivery mechanisms to improve accessibility and reduce barriers in availing benefits.
