The trailer of Awarapan 2 has been making waves ever since it was unveiled on August 6, with fans excited to see Emraan Hashmi reprise his role as Shivam Pandit. While the actor's return has become one of the biggest talking points, another performance that has grabbed attention is that of newcomer Puran Gabbi, who will be seen playing the antagonist in the film.
As the trailer continued to create buzz, Puran's sister and actor Wamiqa Gabbi took to social media on August 7 to celebrate his achievement with an emotional post that offered a glimpse into his journey.
Wamiqa Gabbi says Puran earned the role on his own
Sharing the Awarapan 2 trailer along with a throwback childhood picture and a recent sibling photograph, Wamiqa expressed how proud she was of her brother for reaching the milestone through his own hard work.
She wrote, "Today is a very emotional day for me… "What makes this trailer even more special isn't just that my brother @purangabbi is the antagonist in AWARAPAN 2… it's how he got here. He auditioned, met the team, got shortlisted, got finalized, signed the film… and only much later, in a casual conversation, did they discover that he's my brother.”
She further added, "That gave both of us a strange sense of peace. Because his place in this film wasn't earned through my journey… it was earned through his own." The actor further reflected on her own struggles in the industry, saying she understands how easily a person's hard work can be overshadowed by a familiar surname. She added that she was grateful it never happened in her brother's case.
Calling the achievement entirely his own, Wamiqa concluded her note by writing, "This is your victory. Your patience, your passion, your countless unseen hours. I couldn't be prouder. Go scare the world."
Several members of the film fraternity joined Wamiqa in congratulating Puran after the teaser's release. Ali Fazal commented, "@purangabbi congrats brother!!! So cool. Wish you the best… man of many many talents.." Aparshakti Khurana also cheered for the siblings, writing, "Sooo proud of this chd duo @purangabbi @wamiqagabbi welcome to Mumbai Puran Veeer🤍"

For those unaware, Puran Gabbi made his acting debut with Shah Rukh Khan's Zero, where he appeared in a supporting role.

The film's music has been composed by Mithoon, Jeet Gannguli, Amaal Mallik, Akhil Sachdeva and Wasif. Produced by Vishesh Bhatt, directed by Nitin Kakkar and written by Bilal Siddiqui, Awarapan 2 is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14, 2026.
Interestingly, Wamiqa Gabbi will next be seen opposite Adivi Sesh in G2, where Emraan Hashmi plays the antagonist, making it another project that intriguingly connects the two actors.
