Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi, Rakul Preet Singh, Ravie Dubey, producer Namit Malhotra, director Nitesh Tiwari and Andhra Pradesh-Telangana distributor Dil Raju attended the grand pre-release event of Ramayana in Hyderabad. Nitesh Tiwari surprised the audience with his knowledge of Telugu cinema.
Nitesh Tiwari began by saying, “I was in school when a film released in my town called Shiva (1990). I had no absolutely no idea who those stars were and where that film came from. I watched it in Hindi and I was completely blown by Nagarjuna garu. The presence of Amala ma’am and the menace of Raghuvaran ji as Bhavani added to the fun. I wanted to know who was Ram Gopal Varma (smiles).”
He added, “Then I saw Pratibandh (1990) starring Chiranjeevi sir. The villain was Rami Reddy sir. I realized that day that you don’t need to understand the language to enjoy cinema and its emotions. Later, I went to stay in a hostel, and my roommate was from Hyderabad. He introduced me to Telugu movies while I introduced him to Hindi movies. I saw Geethanjali (1989) and Kshana Kshanam (1991) in Telugu. I know the songs like ‘Nandikonda Vaagullona’ and ‘Jagada Jagada’ (from Geethanjali).”
Nitesh continued, “Even after moving from hostel, I continued my tradition. I watched Eega (2012) and Magadheera (2009) in Telugu, though I watched Baahubali (2015), Baabhubali 2 (2017) and RRR (2022) in Hindi. You know what the common factor was in all these 5 films? It was a magician named S S Rajamouli sir! Your magicians are our magicians, be it Rajamouli sir, Trivikram garu, Sukumar sir, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Nag Ashwin, etc. Your films are our films. Your stars are our stars. My star cast has got the same amount of love from you guys for the work that they have done in the past, which is so heartening.”
Later, he fluently sang ‘Nandikonda Vaagullona’, and it led to a frenzy among the crowd.
Ramayana releases in cinemas worldwide on November 5.
