Naqiyah Haji is set to explore a different side of her acting career with Party Animals, in which she will star opposite Viraj Ghelani. After playing Dr. Nats in Heartbeats Season 2, the actress will be seen as Sakshi, a carefree party girl, in the upcoming entertainer that revolves around humour, chaos and unexpected situations.
Describing the film's tone, Naqiyah called it “a desi version of The Hangover meets 21 Jump Street.” She believes the film's youthful setting and relatable situations will appeal to today's audience, particularly Gen Z.
“Party Animals is a young, youthful film. It’s fun, chaotic, and something I think today’s generation will really relate to,” she shared.
In Party Animals, Naqiyah plays Sakshi, a young woman who enjoys living in the moment and making the most of life. The character is a departure from her role as Dr. Nats in Heartbeats Season 2, which streams on Prime Video and MX Player. In the series, she portrayed a doctor dealing with the effects of childhood abuse, including its impact on her mental health and her struggle with alcohol addiction.
Moving from an emotionally demanding character to a lively and carefree personality has given Naqiyah an opportunity to explore a different genre and performance style.
“Playing Sakshi has been a lot of fun because I’ve jumped directly from playing a doctor to playing this completely different party girl. It’s been a fun, challenging, and exciting experience as an actor, and I’m really looking forward to people seeing this side of me on screen,” she said.
With Viraj Ghelani alongside her, Party Animals aims to bring together youthful characters, humour and unpredictable situations. The film's focus on the experiences and energy of young people is expected to be central to its narrative.
Speaking about what she hopes audiences take away from the film, Naqiyah said, “Most importantly, I hope Gen Z relates to the characters, has a great time watching the film, and just enjoys the madness!” she concludes.
With Party Animals, Naqiyah is set to move away from the emotional complexity of Dr. Nats and take on the spontaneous, fun-loving Sakshi. The film will see her share screen space with Viraj Ghelani in a role that offers audiences a different side of the actress.
