Bollywood’s action icon Ajay Devgn has added another feather to his already decorated cap with the impressive opening of his latest release, Raid 2. The much-anticipated sequel to the 2018 hit Raid hit the ground running with an opening day collection of Rs. 19.71 crore, securing its position as Devgn’s fourth-highest all-time opening day grosser.

Raid 2 Box Office: Film emerges as Ajay Devgn's fourth highest all-time opening day grosser

Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, Raid 2 sees Devgn return as IRS officer Amay Patnaik, this time confronting more formidable forces of corruption and power. Backed by compelling performances from Vaani Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh, Rajesh Sharma, Saurabh Shukla, and Amit Sial, and produced by T-Series and Panorama Studios, the film is already being hailed for its tight narrative, action-packed storytelling, and social relevance.

While the film's Rs. 19.71 crore opening is noteworthy on its own, it becomes even more impressive when placed alongside Ajay Devgn’s historical box office track record. In fact, Raid 2 opened 21.2% higher than Total Dhamaal (Rs. 16.50 crore), showing stronger initial traction for a more serious genre compared to the mass comedy. It also fared 30.0% better than Drishyam 2 (Rs. 15.38 crore), which was a critical and commercial success, proving that the Raid franchise has evolved into a reliable brand. Compared to Shaitaan (Rs. 15.21 crore), Raid 2 delivered a 31.4% stronger debut, reflecting both Devgn's pull and the growing appetite for taut thrillers with a social undercurrent.

The film earned 32.4% more than the period action epic Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (Rs. 15.10 crore), which was a massive blockbuster in terms of lifetime earnings. Even when stacked up against Baadshaho (Rs. 12.60 crore) and Bol Bachchan (Rs. 12.10 crore), Raid 2 delivered opening day numbers that are 58.7% and 65.3% higher, respectively.

While it trails behind Singham Again (Rs. 43.70 crore), Singham Returns (Rs. 32.09 crore), and Golmaal Again (Rs. 30.14 crore)—all of which belong to highly commercial and widely celebrated franchises—Raid 2’s performance in a non-festive, non-holiday release window makes its box office figures even more commendable.

But what made the film so successful were a culmination of several factors from franchise recall to Devgn’s star power and consistent credibility in serious, socially charged roles coupled with a smart release strategy, and of course public sentiment.

Currently, With Raid 2, Ajay Devgn once again demonstrates his ability to draw audiences across genres—from masala entertainers to intense thrillers. The film's Rs. 19.71 crore debut not only confirms his box office consistency but also showcases the power of sharp storytelling and franchise value. As it stands, Raid 2 is off to a solid start, and if positive word-of-mouth continues, it may soon join the elite club of Devgn’s Rs. 100 crore-plus earners.
