In the history of Bollywood, only a handful of films have made it to the Rs. 300 Crore Club. In fact, the count is less than 10. Each of these films has one thing in common its budget itself is Rs. 100-200 crores range. Now The Kashmir Files, which has been made at a cost of Rs. 15 crores, is in a real chance to find an entry into the elite club. That would make it the most inexpensive film to zoom this much, and while even Rs. 100 crores at the box office would have qualified it as a blockbuster, the fact that it is stepping into the Rs. 200 Crore Club this week has made it an all-time blockbuster, and perhaps a new term would need to be invented for it from box office parlance once the Rs. 300 crores mark is surpassed.
The film had a very good second Monday with Rs. 12.40 crores coming in. Frankly though, the kind of momentum that it was demonstrating all this while, a much higher day of Rs. 15 crores was expected from it. One just hopes that there is stability from this point on and the collections stay over the Rs. 10 crores mark on a daily basis right till Thursday. RRR arrives this Friday and that’s not a movie that can be taken lightly.
Meanwhile, Bachchhan Paandey has now ceased to be competition, since on Monday the collections dropped as they read only Rs. 4 crores*. The film was struggling over the weekend with a dip in footfalls instead of growth and now that on Monday it has fallen, its fate is clear. Currently standing at Rs. 41.25 crores*, the film will fold up around the Rs. 70 crores mark.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
