It won't be wrong to say that Mohenjo Daro is one of the most awaited movies of 2016. Ever since it was announced, there has been huge curiosity around what Ashutosh Gowariker has to offer with this biggie. After all, the filmmaker is returning more than half a decade after Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se (2010) and hence one expects nothing but something truly spectacular from this period drama. Moreover, with him and Hrithik Roshan coming together after a successful Jodhaa Akbar, it was pretty much on the cards that the film would be a magical experience indeed.
The buzz was kept intact right through its making and the teaser promo received a lot of appreciation too, despite none of the visuals being shown. While everything was going perfect for the film, the theatrical promo turned out to be a setback of sorts. The response was mixed and what was on display didn't quite justify the hype that had been created over the months. The follow through promos stayed on to be just about decent as well which means Mohenjo Daro had some ground to cover en route it's D-Day of 12th August.
That said, all that has been actually prevented on this cycle is a bumper opening, but that's about it. On a regular Friday, the film may have comfortably gone past Rs. 15 crores but an average promo, competition with Rustom, division of screens and a release on a working Friday means this won't be possible. However, what is still definitely possible is a turnaround that could well happen from Saturday onwards if the reports are positive. Two facts cannot be ignored - a) Hrithik is a force to reckon with and has a huge fan base for himself that would lap on to something which is good, b) Ashutosh Gowariker is a man waiting to strike back with vengeance. He is due for a big success now and considering the fact that he has given half a decade to Mohenjo Daro, it is near to impossible that he would have made anything less than entertaining.
It is indeed going to be an exciting day in theatres this Friday.
