What a contrast it is turning out to be at the box office. A film that came practically unannounced where the leading man is not much known to even that segment of audiences which has watched the film is finding good traction amongst masses. On the other hand, a niche film, which was promoted rightly for its target audience and is well made, too is surprisingly not quite finding favour amongst them.
Karthikeya 2 wasn’t even a film that was heard much till 10 days back and suddenly it’s the flavour of the season with Rs. 16.30 crores already been collected after being there in theatres for 10 days. The film collected Rs. 0.98 crores more on Monday which is decent again considering its restricted release and the word of mouth which is still in the process of catching up. It’s not as if the film is known to one and all across the nook and the corner of the country; even now it’s appeal is restricted to the masses and that too in select states. Still, it has turned out to be a profitable venture for all those who invested in it.
On the other hand, Do Baaraa was meant to be a film, which would end up collecting well on the basis of audience word of mouth. In fact, it did start reasonably okay at Rs. 0.72 crores, which was better than expected, and it seemed that the stage had been set for good growth over the weekend. However when that didn’t happen, the scare factor was already there that Monday would see further fall and that’s exactly what happened when the collections came down to Rs. 0.20 crores. As a result, its collections currently are Rs. 3.18 crores.
The pace at which both these films are going, Karthikeya 2 will go past the Rs. 20 crores mark in a couple of days itself and then a lifetime in excess of Rs. 25 crores is comfortably on the cards. On the other hand, Do Baaraa would struggle to have a first week of around Rs. 5 crores and post that just a little more would come in its lifetime.
