How the tables are turning for new releases of the week! Typically, films with reasonably good word of mouth scrape through well over the weekend, only to keep the nervous moments on during the weekdays. This is where the much dreaded phrase ‘Monday test’ came into existence. However, in case of the pre-Diwali releases, the situation has turned around entirely. It is the ‘weekend test’ that had to be passed since the first weekday was a bonus in the offering, courtesy the National holiday post Diwali.
In that aspect, Karan Johar‘s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has done well to register a weekend of Rs. 35.60 crore [Friday – Rs. 13.30 crore, Saturday – Rs. 13.10 crore, Sunday – Rs. 9.20 crore]. Dharma Productions as well as Fox Star would be relieved to see such numbers coming their way as from this point on, it is time to consolidate for them. Rest assured, the sum of Rs. 50 crore would be crossed by Monday and that would be the first major milestone for the film to celebrate.
Ranbir Kapoor had suffered a false start with Besharam which flattered to deceive while Bombay Velvet had seen a disastrous start. Later, his Tamasha did improve over the weekend but just about stepped into the zone of respectable total after the weekdays. Now, one can well expect Ae Dil Hai Mushkil to fetch him a much better positioning and if the film manages to cover a larger distance, it would only help his next release Jagga Jasoos which too has a job in hand to get the right perception in place.
However, that is a story for later as for now; all eyes are on how big does Monday turn out to be for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. While it would be in the upwards of Rs. 15 crore, a further peak would only spell good news for all involved with the film.
