A review of movie PIKU by Nauman Hannani Shoojit Sircar (Director - who directed Madras Café) and Juhi Chaturvedi (writer / dialoague - also wrote Vicky Donor) combination with actors like Amitabh, Irrfan and Deepika can not go wrong and therefore PIKU has to fly. To me PIKU is Journey A journey of Father (Amitabh), who is unconventional, honest, outspoken, announcing all the time that her daughter is not a virgin. He does not want that her daughter get married only to have relation

Shoojit Sircar is one such director who comes up with a sensitive topic and the end result is always beyond the viewer expectation. After directing gems like Vicky Donor and Madras Cafe, the director has added another gem to his filmography. The director has been able to showcase a complex relation between a daughter and a senile father with ease.Sircar was also able to show the reality in a humorous manner. Perhaps Shoojit Sircar is the director who has the chance of taking the vacant throne of Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee, because like these director's Sircar is also able to show such sensitive topics in visual in the mold of these director's. Coming to the performance Deepika Padukone in this film has overshadowed her veteran peers in terms of acting and which she was able to carry out with ease. Irfan khan portrayal was realistic and showed how he was jumbling with his family and business life. Amitabh Bachchan portrayal as a senile and medically ill father was great and considering his character's age, his ideas and thoughts were quite funny and party progressive as well. Meanwhile supporting actors like Jisshu Sengupta, Raghuvir yadav, Moushmi Chatterjee portrayal were quite effective. Piku stands out to be one of the best films of the year and it will be interesting to watch Shoojit Sircar's further directorial and production ventures in future.

PiKU- This one easily could be the best movie of the year till now. Yet the movie is too simple in its treatment, Digging out all the humor from real life the movie make you connect with the characters like you can say - Yes That's How People React In Real World. The movie is based on the relationship between a Father and a Daughter is such a realistic way still you will shocked by thinking that such a relationship has not been displayed before in Bollywood. Bhaskor (played by Big B at his best) is a father who doesn't skip a single chance of irritating his daughter by the problems of his MOTION or you can say in Bengali tone as MOSHAAN. And PiKU in-spite being angry never show her back to her father even risking her carrier just to look after his father. Bhaskor is also too much protective to his daughter , don't want her to get married just because of the fear of getting alone. For which he always reveals the fact to every boy her daughter meet that she is not a Virgin. He also calls her daughter of being ill on a temperature 98.8 degree whenever she was spending a Date with a man. Just because of his father's stubbornness PiKU decided to take him to Kolkata from Delhi that also by a road trip because his father wants it. Here comes the character played by Irfan - Rana Chowdhary. A non Bengali person who is the owner of Rental Taxi company and only driver available to PiKU because other drivers doesn't like the nature of PiKU. Irfan is the main reason why Hindi and English language has been used in the film as the other characters have to speak in a language he can understand , other wise the movie totally felt like a Bengali film or you can say a Bollywood film flavored with Bengaliness (something what i have been missing in BARFI and BYOMKESH BAKSHI) . Soojit Sircar and Raju Hirani are the only two directors in Bollywood who can make a movie with toilet humor and still the movie remains a family film(remember Vicky Doner with sperm having the center of attraction in the movie). In PiKU toilet humor has been taken in its literal sense , as most of the discussion in the movie have the topic digestive system .Infect there was a hilarious scene in which the Bhaskor was describing the colour of his human waste to the doctor and PiKU says "Colour Shades LEKAR KYUN NHI BAITHATE , TAAKI BATAA SAKEN KITNA PERCENT GREEN HEI AUR KITNA PERCENT YELLOW". This line would have gave you an indication how the jokes you will encounter while watching this. Not a single boring moment has been displayed in the whole movie , neither any sad scenes , its a laugh riot with sensibility in it. Deepika is not one of my favorite actress(that doesn't mean i don't like her acting capabilities) but if she will in future can give 3-4 more performance like PiKU then there will be strong chances that she will enter my favorite list. Irfan played the only non Bengali important character who did the job of holding together the other characters also getting the judgmental looks of other. In one scene Bhaskor called him You Non Bengali Chowdhary. But without any doubt its Big B who steals the show. He also became a child who wants her daughter to take care of him for whole of his life like she is her mother not daughter. He wants to get pampered , want the people to bear his stubborn nature. Cinematography has been good by showing freshness of Kolkata and also the Journey. Music although not having chart buster songs work nicely with the flow of the film. Soojit has made a simple and sensible movie. This movie needs to get watched , and there is no reason why anybody will not watch it. The movie ends in a continuation , like in hurry or may be there could not have been any proper ending to compliment the whole movie.. But that's not the point , its not about the destination , its about the journey. So don't think , just go and watch it , its disastrous when non sense masala movies get 100crores of business and movies like PiKU get flop or just an above average business verdict. 8.4/10. This year has been quite dull for Hindi cinema so far, but director Shoojit Sircar ups the bench with his latest release Piku ~ a comical, heartfelt tale of an ageing father and his accommodating daughter. Deepika Padukone plays the role of Piku Banerjee, a 30-year-old Bengali architect living in New Delhi with her father Bhaskor, who has suffered from constipation throughout his life and has to yet find a cure for it. From his medication to his health reports and his regular blood pressure checks, Piku is responsible for every aspect of his health and constantly finds herself nursing her demanding father, often at the cost of her own sanity and her personal life. It seems like Bhaskor's character has been created keeping a needy child in mind. Everything he says is a call for attention or a complaint about his health. Piku, on the other hand, appears to be frustrated with her father's childish behavior and his constant need for her attention for the smallest of things. She gets irritated when she is updated on each and every cell's movement in her father's body, and they often argue and banter about his self-imagined health issues. The film progresses as Bhaskor demands to take a trip to Calcutta to visit the family property, and insists on traveling by road as being in a train or a plane will disturb his bowels. Piku then arranges a car and a driver to drive them. When the driver of the rent-a-car company ditches them, the owner Irrfan Khan steps in and decides to take charge of the journey. And so, the 3 principle characters of the film set out on a long road trip full of disagreements, toilet breaks, and eventually, some bonding sessions between the characters. The casting of the film couldn't be any better, with Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone boasting superb father-daughter chemistry whenever they are on screen. Both play their part with brilliance and prove that they are truly Bollywood's finest actors in the business. Masuma Chatterjee plays Deepika's aunt in the film and makes the audience roar with laughter with her one-liners and her perfect comic timing. Irrfan Khan as Rana Choudhary is suitable for the role and also initiates many of the humorous scenes in the film. Last year it was Queen, and this year it is Piku that touches your heart and brings a large smile on your face as you exit the cinema hall. If you haven't watched it yet, then stop everything else and book your tickets to watch this year's best film so far.

Piku is heartwarming. The story reels off a comic father-daughter relationship in the most unusual manner. The plot revolves around the life of a dissatisfied office worker 'Piku' and the difficulties she faces while dealing with the countless number of tantrums put forth by her 70-year old father. The movie possesses a convincing run-time replenished with absolute innocence. No overused romance sequences, no illogical flying cars, no unnecessary dance acts and above all, a heartfelt story contributes towards the film's charm. Yet another time, a road trip depiction capitalizes in bringing a smile to the audience's faces. Also, an uncustomary climax categorizes the film as a disparate one, unlike majority of the Bollywood films today. Kudos to the casting department for setting up such a brilliant troupe of performers. Deepika Padukone, who portrays the central character in the film, is unquestionably impressive. She certainly manages to delineate her charisma throughout the movie. But, Amitabh Bachchan's performance is the cream of the crop, this goes without saying. Everything ranging from his dialogue delivery to his demeanor is peerless. Irrfan Khan is known for his gifted talent of never disappointing his viewers. With this film, once again, he proves how worthy his presence is. Supporting characters played by Moushumi Chatterjee and Jishu Sengupta are above average. Shoojit Sircar is definitely the future of the industry. After Vicky Donor and Madras Cafe, the director has undoubtedly managed to maintain his reputation in the film circle. Screenplay by Juhi Chaturvedi is exquisite, in every sense of the word. The people behind the cameras deserve a special ovation for their work. Music by Anupam Roy is mesmerizing. Summarizing everything, Piku is a different tale, filled with relishable moments. Your age won't make a difference, since, the movie is for everyone. Go, experience something new. Experience 'Piku'!

Director Mr. #SoojitSircar has done wonderful job. He was very clear about the emotions of every character. He has taken far ahead the script by his visualization. Writer #JuhiChaturvedi breaks the all taught grammar of a script but still succeeded to posses its soul. Hats off to her. She had just an idea on the name of story but she developed this beautifully which was not an easy work. Screenplay is good. Dialogues are sweet and witty. Writing and direction are so gelled that it is hard to believe that actually that is written by two persons. Both were creatively tuned on the same note. This film is a great example that good rapport of writer and director can even carry a very thin subject to an entertaining flick. All characters are very real. You start believing them very soon. Love scenes are realistic, unusual but project the correct emotions. Film is slow but you still enjoy it throughout like home made food. You will be wearing smile and sometimes burst in laughter too. Brilliant performance by all actors is icing on the cake. One can watch any film just for Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. He is par excellence. Deepika Padukone is one of very fine actor, who can carry very glamorous character as well as hard core real, authentic and girl next door role with ease and conviction. Irrfan Khan is fabulous. Moushumi Chatterjee and Raghuvir Yadav are very good. Music by Anupam Roy and lyrics by Manoj Yadav and Anupam Roy are impressive.
