Movie is okhey in its first part..and good in its first half an hour of second part but after that it dragged..and all of sudden the climax appear Peroformance wise its good movie..Neil stands out among the performerances Irffan is usual,Katreena is very good n improving with every films while John is good in parts..his expression was really good but as long as he doesnt speak nything :) It cud have been his best performance of lifetime..but he let us down in most of the scene. The film was required a better screenplay and editing..

It is a good movie but with many reasons that it may be a hit. [1] Long period: The most important one is the 2 months of gap before the release of NEWYORK. People were desperately waiting for something to come out and it is luckily NEWYORK from YRF. People just couldn't control and gone to watch. [2] Star cast: John, Katrina and Neil are enough to get the people in. Get rid of these 3 names and count on the people who are going to watch it? [3] A name and promos: NEWYORK (people living here and dreaming about USA, will surely go for it) and the promos are made in a way that the movie has lots of "happening" things in it. I personally feel that the movie has been made for the critics (and not for the common men who want "masala" in hindi entertainer). This movie has been made to grab some awards and to work in overseas more than in India. Performances are good but on the other hand the story is. While watching a movie, i reminded about another movie which was released few years ago - AUZAAR (Salman Khan, Shipla Shetty, Sanjay Kapoor) which had the same story. A hero, another hero and a heroine studying together in a college, both the heroes falling in love with a same girl, 1 of them is getting married to her and dealing with mafia-business, hero is a cop and helping friend to come out of the situation. The same story, theme and a plot applies here but in a HUGE way. The most benefit to this movie is that it came out from YRF. That's all about NEWYORK.

The idea was good but emotions portrayed were quite weak. You almost feel no sympathy for any character in the movie, which if I am not mistaken was point of the movie? Forget sympathy, it was difficult to understand what the heck was director specifically trying to say? Whose point of view were we supposed to understand and focus on? Johns? Neils? Katrinas? Could have done a much better. I advise people to watch Khuda Ke Liye instead if this is the subject matter they are interested in watching. As for what I did like, I LOVED Irfan Khan. His style, his stature, his dialogue delivery, his effortless performance. Natural actor. I am starting to really like Katrina. Actually thats an understatement. I am starting to love her as an actress. She is very talented. She can portray emotions. I hope she gets more roles like this. Even more, I hope she gets to work with Shahrukh Khan. She deserves it. Shahrukh and Katrina will make one heck of a pair. Couple things that I am not too fond of in Katrina. I find her Hindi accent a little irritating. She should either stick to english all the way, or improve her Hindi. She has come a long way but she should still try to speak Hindi more often in TV shows. More you practice more you learn. Another thing is I do not like Katrina when she does sleazy scenes. May be I am a conservative Indian but I still think it tarnishes sweet and innocent image that I have of her in my imagination. Neil is wonderful. I admire him. He gave good performance. This is his first movie I watched and I liked it. John as a somber character did not have a whole lot to do but did his part pretty well. The guy is cool.

Although Yash Raj Films is considered by many as a production house churning out only romantic and…
Although Yash Raj Films is considered by many as a production house churning out only romantic and goody-goody films, the fact is that they too have taken the less-trodden path and came up with fantastic and meaningful hatke films (Kabul Express and Chak De! India are the classic examples). Their new offering, New York, too is another hatke flick from this production house. What is impressive about New York is its narrative-it deals with serious topics like terrorism and post-9/11 scenario but at the same time, its impact doesn’t limit itself only to niche audiences. It’s a meaningful film, which caters to all kinds of audiences. And that’s its biggest achievement! The story of the movie: Omar (Neil Mukesh) arrives at New York to pursue a Master’s Degree at New York State University. Here he meets Sameer aka Sam (John Abraham) and Maya (Katrina Kaif) who become his best buddies. Time flies fast and it was soon time for college to get over. At this point of time, the 9/11 attack occurs which forever changes the lives of these three friends. How this incident affects them adversely and what steps they take to resurrect is what the film is about. New York strikes a fine balance-it is dealt with maturity and yet manages to strike a chord with audiences of all ages. It is not at all formulaic and the story is narrated in a not-so-usual and interesting style. Also the film doesn’t waste time at all-the story begins from the first scene itself. There are no unnecessary songs, no unwanted scenes-the focus is just on the three main characters. There are several scenes in the film that would remain etched in one’s mind. The most unforgettable sequence of the film is undoubtedly John Abraham’s flashback. This wonderfully shot and enacted scene will astonish everyone for sure. Even globally acclaimed Khuda Kay Liye failed to give such an outstanding description of the torture cells. The only flaw was that the film, particularly in the 2nd half, got a little bit confusing at places but still this can be overlooked. However, the film succeeds in giving a powerful message and also an excellent insight about the chaotic situation post 9/11 created by the Bush administration. It also raises a question about the terrorists who were responsible for the 9/11 attacks-what did they achieve by those cowardly attacks which they considered as great? In the name of jihad, they ended up devastating the lives of so many people in US who were detained as terrorist suspects. The climax of the film may seem unacceptable to many. However, the final scene of the film is very impressive. All the four main actors of the film manage to give one of the best performances of their respective careers! No matter how hard John Abraham tried to give a brilliant performance in the past, he always ended up receiving appreciation for his fab body. This was evident especially during Dostana. However for New York, he would surely be liked by everyone for his brilliant performance only! He rocks the screen from the first scene itself and manages to give a praiseworthy performance. Watch out for him in the torture scenes and in the climax. Keep rocking, John! As expected, Neil Mukesh gives yet another outstanding performance after Johnny Gaddaar! In fact, it was Neil who dominates the first half and does a great job. Like John, he too impresses a lot in the climax. Katrina Kaif surprises! She was always accused of not being to able to act and speak in Hindi. Post-New York, she would be considered not only as a glam-doll but also as a wonderful actor. Irrfan Khan as FBI Agent Roshan as usual comes up with an outstanding performance. He also provides some comic moments in between! Nowaz, who played Shahana Goswami’s husband in Firaaq, has a small but an important role in the film and he does a fine job. Pritam’s music is good, but not as great as his other works. Two songs stand out-Hai Junoon and Mere Sang. In addition, the film also has two instrumentals composed by Julius Packiam which are intriguing and haunting. Mere Sang is probably one of the best picturised songs of the year. Watch out for the scene in the song when John is walking down the street and a group of protestors pass by carrying textual posters of ‘Buck Fush’! Aseem Mishra’s cinematography was perfect. The lensman performs better in the detention scenes. Rameshwar Bhagat’s editing was flawless. Aditya Chopra surprises as the writer of the film. It’s great to see a person like him coming up with such out-of-the-box stories. Sandeep Shrivastava, who earlier wrote the screenplay of Ab Tak Chappan, excels through his screenplay and dialogues. Screenplay was unique since the film doesn’t pace ahead in the typical way. Kabir Khan had already proved himself with his first feature film, Kabul Express. However, the film failed to do a terrific job at the BO since it was more of a docu-drama. However, in New York, he manages to come up with a sensitive, intelligent film that caters to a large audience. On the whole, New York is a brilliant film to say the least. It not only gives a message, but throws a light on the wrong-doings of the Bush administration which devastated the lives of many. At the same time, it raises many questions. Brilliantly executed, wonderfully performed, New York will surely be remembered for a long time!

Its a nice movie... the casting is really good. Don't have any particular message from the movie. But still it was a nice movie. Worthy to watch. Direction is good. Performances is also good. Specially by Neil Nithin Mukesh and Katrina Kaif. I think the story should have been more strong. 1st half is excellent. 2nd have, could have improved little more. But over all it was a nice movie. Definitely should be a hit.

A film like New York with its intense subject matter and controversial backdrop is always at high risk of becoming a documentary. With expectations riding high, is New York a storyteller, or a story show? Director Kabir Khan has definitely turned the tables with this venture. The film is gripping, enticing, entertaining and most importantly - believable. Not once does Kabir Khan venture into the filmi, sensationalised method of doing things nor does he play up the music to breaking point. He uses his settings and his cinematography tell the story whilst the characters and dialogues simply drizzle over this treat. the film does come with its minusses. The pace gets very slow by the last act and the songs - apart from Hai Junoon and Mere Sang - are lacklustre. Cinematography, screenplay, stylish, art direction - is all crisp and top-notch. John Abraham is a complete revelation. Known as your average, good-looking, expressionless piece of eye-candy, Abraham drops all goods to come up with a hair-raising act, particularly in the torture scene. Niel Nitin Mukesh delivers his best performance thus far. Yes he becomes a little wooden at times, but you can redeem him for that as he works tremendously. The real surprise though is Katrina. She simply melts into the folds of her characters and delivers and believable, natural performance. Still, the actress has a long way to go to be at par with all the other actresses. The scene-stealer is Irrfan Khan. A complete natural, not once does he allow the audience to believe he's acting. When he's on screen, he's FBI Agent Roshan - not Irrfan Khan.
