Goliyon ki Raas Leela-Ram Leela- SLB is in sublime form, though there are nervous and scratchy moments!! Colorful, daring, passionate, breathtaking and a brief period of lull. This is “Remix” cinema at one of its best. Baz Luhrmaan did it with the Di Caprio starrer Romeo and Juliet, our noire prince Kashyap did it with DEVD and now Bhansali does a “never before” with cliché!!! Outstanding Cinematography, opulent sets, superb music, fantastic performances and a “hatke” take on the story beaten to death by all. The chopra’s glorified love through some great outdoor shots and music sticking onto the badshah, johars followed the same ritual, barjatyas stuck to the family sentiments and values and SLB does what he knows best- Grandeur, passion and his opera styling… Re-writing/Re-creating great works and infusing sensibilities of today’s audience is an art – another brownie point for the film- Brilliant and somewhat off beat presentation. There are sequences which brought back memories of Ketan Mehta’s awesome Mirch Masala, JP’s refugee…or more coz of the rann of Kutch connect maybe!!! The movie scores right from the way it opens and talks about an “Arms Bazaar” and a well-executed chase sequence that establishes the story and what lies in store. Supriya Pathak wreaks havoc and simply stands tall. Ranveer scores heavily and performs with gusto (thou he needs to remember that we have enough 6/8 pack stunners and concentrate a bit more on his dialogue delivery), Padukone wins handsomely and gives a new dimension to our gujju “Juliet” (hat trick huh with a Madrasi and Nerd year)-her eyes talk about her earnestness and she seals it with a power house performance. Gulshan, Abhimanyu get their moments of glory too. SLB’s films are known for his soundtracks and some stunning choreography which fills the celluloid with unabashed colors and poetry in motion. He has scored the music and makes it a memorable one…the dhols, nagadas, garbha and those lusty sequences…hey he was the choreographer for the 1942-love story-Kuch Na Kaho song…amazingly picturized sequence. The chemistry, physics, maths…of the lead pair is another highlight…HDDCS had the same with Sallu-Ash or Black with AB-Rani… Some of the sequences are visually mind blowing…watch them to know that this has been thought out with loads of passion. The film thou falters – the promise of a bullet filled, juicy romance takes a back seat as clearly that has never been Bhansalis forte. The need to make this a musical, romantic tragedy with loads of gunpowder, wow performances…phew A T-20sque touch to an otherwise Test Match!! The finale moments could have been shot with a lot of vigor and panache but ends up “clichéd like the plot”…A FINE balance could have made this one of the master pieces… (Sic) but my thoughts are as wild as the reviews are!!! Imagine if these troika had directed this – Bhansali(master of Promance)-RGV (master of Guns)-Rakesh Omprakash mehra (master of creative narration)...Ras-Goli-Leela

Bhansali's madness is unparalleled ! But there is synchronized methodology to his madness.So even though the film is over populated with rowdy humorous ‘below the belt’ jokes, some lame dialogues (‘You are a lover, I m a killer’) and some brain hammering bullets and fire shots amidst cramped lanes and alleys, you are bound to your seats because Bhansali keeps the film spectacularly engaging with its opulence until the end. His eye for detailing and his sheer aestheticism deserves applaud, for instance, the inner quarters of the women folk are heavily inspired by Ketan Mehta’s ‘Mirch Masala’, the scenes between the lovers are elegant keeping the Indian exotica on mind like the cawing peacocks perched on the tree branches of a Victorian style garden and balconies where the lake shining in the moonlit night is adorned by the blooming lotuses (ref : Romeo-Juliet, the famous Balcony scene, Act II, Scene II), an earthen diya emitting sensuous arousal smoke prequel to the passion play, (but mind you, the director doesn’t get over indulgent with the love making scene!)

For filmophiles who have suffered for years at the hands of sadistic reviewers including yours truly, all SPOILERS are at the end i.e. are only for those already done watching. STORY : Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is apparently not done to death. At least no yet. This is Bhansali's ode to the greatest tragic love story for all times. Though one feels it is closer in style and content to the Oscar award winning WEST SIDE STORY (which itself was inspired by Romeo

Absolutely loved it!! A mind blowing master piece.. I liked the fact that Sanjay has taken the Romeo Juliet concept and made it into a total desi master pieces, that all of us Desis could be proud of. and to the idiot who is saying that "I was feeling like it was like ishaqzaade" Does he/she live under a rock? OFFCOURSE it will be like that movie, because both movies are the adaptation of Romeo Juliet..

He excels both as director and as music composer,though entry of Ranveer into the scenes could have been done with more elegance. The spiced up chemistry b/w the lead pairs was one of the best of this year,so wonderfully shot,you just can't take your eyes off when both of them are together. Supriya Pathak was surprise package with her range of emotions shown at ease. Such a set for a movie can be built beautifully and shot aesthetically only by SLB. Special credits to the cinematographer and editor which was wonderfully done. even Saawariya excelled in t many departments than OSO,but still it went unnoticed. Gulshan Devaiah and Richa Chadda got little screen space with respect to the skill they posses in acting department.Deepika,this girl,is clearly on a roll,and most importantly,the range of emotion by her just got widened,Ranveer seems to be evolving with every movie of him.Dance sequences were exceptionally choreographed with a bit of modern touch to it, The use of Gulaals used and shot so wonderfully,can't remember any b'wood movie to do that with such perfection. Special Mention for costume designer( no idea of their name,sorry) for the use of red dresses in most of the scenes. Easily one of the finest movie,a SLB movie,where he has blended his craft with b'wood nach gana routine to give us something fresh,spicy. Enjoy it,experience it,not a tad amount of disappointment will be felt

While watching this movie, i felt i was watching ishaqzaade again in sanjay leela bhansali style. Not much from the plot as you know how it's gong to end. Plus it could have been shorter. And more so over Too many lengthy scenes and dialogues spoils the fun.Music is good. Dances brilliant.Deepika is awesome. Screenplay should have been tighter. Would've liked if SLB hadn't chosen Romeo and Juliet.
