5 Excellent

Never heard of the movie until I saw it by accident last week (1-1/2 years after its release) AND I LOVED IT; every bit of it. I am not from India and not a great fan of Bollywood movies that are minted for cashing in on the first weekend of box-office, and that by nature have short shelf-lives. I am especially tired of western-centric themes and western-centric locations, which make up almost 100% of releases nowadays. This movie breaks from that Bollywood-masala ganre whichs targets urban and diasporic audience with tediously similar story-lines and singing and dancing in front of NYC skyline. Despite naysayers, the story of this movie is credible (or as credible as any Bollywood or Hollywood movie) and flows very well. All the songs are awesome and are actually part of the story instead of coming out from nowhere. The performance of Sonu and Isha is great. This movie introduced me to Isha Koppikar (she looks like Charlize Theron or vice versa), so I did not have a pre-conceived notion of her being an item-girl, which probably helped me enjoy the movie more. Her movie role as the "girl next door" is so genuine that I something get confused with her real-life - glamorous model, brand promoter, item-girl - it's like Dr Jekyll and Ms Hyde. Read that she's getting married this week and I send her my best wishes.
