Chandni Chowk To China: Old wine in new bottle, Rating: 2.5 out of 5*, Starring: Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Ranvir Shorey, Mithun Chakravorthy and Gordon Liu, Direction: Nikhil Advani A small village in China is terrorized by one cruel gang lord, Hojo (Gordon). Fed up of his tyrannies, the hapless villagers consult an astrologer who tells them that China’s most famous ancient warrior Liu Sheng has re-incarnated and he is the one who will kill Hojo. Two villagers go in the hunt of this re-born Liu Sheng which happens to be one staying in the famous Chandni Chowk of Delhi in India. This bloke Siddhu (Akshay) in real is anything but their warrior they are in the look out for. Working in a paratha shop, as a vegetable cutter, the portly Siddhu is forever chasing dreams of a luxurious life without wanting to do hard work to achieve it. His foster father, Dada (Mithun) is fed up of his lethargic ways and always tries to make him realize his hidden potential. The two Chinese villagers finally find Siddhu and with the help of a fraud Chinese astrologer Chopstick (Ranveer) manage to take him to their village in China. Chopstick too tags along as Siddhu’s translator. During the journey, Siddhu encounters Sakhi (Deepika) a popular model and falls for her instantly but soon his hopes come crashing as he comes across her lethal side of that of a thief. But little does he know that its not Sakhi but her long lost twin Suzie aka Meow Meow (Deepika again) whom he has got confused with. What happens when Siddhu arrives in the remote Chinese village and how Hojo reacts to his arrival and what it leads to forms the rest of the film! There had been lots of expectations raised from the slick promos of the film but unfortunately, the film doesn’t really end up being the joy ride it promises to be. The biggest flaw of CC2C lies in its predictable script which packs in all the 70s masala including lost and found, revenge drama, the triumph of good over evil just that the setting is changed from India to China. The film begins well with a superbly shot fight on the wall of China but then the pace dips as Siddhu’s daily life is introduced. Then again post the interval any average cinegoer can predict what is in store at what intervals and there is where boredom starts creeping in. You keep looking at your watch hoping it to end. Also, despite a good built up given to Hojo’s Kung Fu expertise and hopes raised about the one on one fight between him and Siddhu, the climax fight ends up being very short and disappointing. Amongst the most redeemable factors about CC2C is Akshay Kumar. He makes you laugh, cry and cheer for him but then again he is let down by an average script. But it’s a great treat watching Akshay going back in the action mode and doing some really breathtaking Kung Fu stunts. Deepika Padukone in a double role does well but the chemistry between her and Akki is clearly missing. Gordon Liu as the villain is simply superb. He manages to bring out terror just with a stare. Ranvir is good as usual whereas Mithun impresses in the few sequences that he gets. The music of the film appears better when watching the songs onscreen as they have been very lavishly picturised, especially the title track. The film scores full marks on the technical front. But we wish we could say the same about the script! The film is a must see for hardcore Akshay Kumar fans, for the rest well one can only say that if you want to get nostalgic about the 70s cinema with some humor mixed with it then going for this 2 hour 40 minutes film won’t be a bad idea.

.Oh god! What were they thinking ? That is the only thing that came to my mind after the movie got over .Did not they think twice before going ahead with this project .How someone with a common sense could okay this script in the first place .After the refreshingly beautiful Kal ho naa ho ,Nikhil Advani faltered with the disastrous Salaam E ishq .And would expect him to learn from the mistakes he made during SEI but Chandni Chowk To China is a film that makes SEI look like a classic .The film does not have a single redeeming factor! This one is a royal mess . It somehow reminded me of another Akki movie Talaash which was a major stinker .Both the movies bear uncanny resemblence in terms of plot ,locations ,action and screenplay .Incidentally Talash started the year 2003 on a horrible note for it was the first release of that year .CCTC too achieves the same being the first major release of the year 2009.. Contrary to the title ,CCTC actually starts in China and then moves back to Delhi .Akshay Kumar is a chef in Chandani Chowk .His life takes a turn when a group arrives from China and he is led to believe that he was their group leader in the previous birth..He flies to China and the [mis]adventure starts ..... The film actually starts on a decent note .The description of Great Wall of China followed by a battle was quite well done . I expected the drama to reach an all time high with the introduction of Akki but the movie just falls flat .The comic track is just so forced and does not quite raise the laughter .Its simply unbearable . Comedy has always been Akshay's forte but surprisingly he totally looks disintrested throughout the proceeding .Agreed the script is totally crap but Akshay has this ability of raising above the script and dominating the screen with his unmatchable comic timing /persona but here he is just not in his elements . The Mithun-Akshay track is another sore point .Its highly irritating.Take that scene where Mithun makes Akshay remember about the past and how he raised him .Its supposed to be an emotional one but proves to be an unintentional comic moment ..To put it simply the film makes you laugh where you are supposed to cry and vice-versa. The film is bit intresting after the introduction of Deepika ..She looks like a diva and performs much better than her first two earlier movies .The scene in the airport where she makes Akshay dance is quite hilarious .Ditto for that scene where Akshay is about to close the luggage inside the plane. The film was actually bearable before the interval and I still had a ray of hope from the movie when the intermission card was flashed . Alas! The film is a royal mess after the intermission. The film makes absolutely no sense from this point .Forget logic ,it defies even common sense .The ending is equally terrible .Its hard to believe Nikhil actually directed KHNH . And he threatens to return with a sequel 'Chandani Chowk to Africa ' towards the end ..Scary thought . Action is pathetic .In fact Akshay movies in the past viz the Khiladi series had far better action .The film is actually a Z grade movie which Akshay used to do in the 90s in a grab of Warner Bros production .The 55 crore budget does not reflect anywhere in the film .Everything is so tacky and outdated .The cinematography is not upto the mark . Music is another weak point .Barring title track ,the remaining songs are sure to break your ear plug .Even the beautiful Tere Naina has been placed so badly in the film , thus killing the impact . Akshay Kumar disappoints .He is not funny this time. Its high time he leaves the comic genre for its getting repititive and boring .And even his much hyped comeback to the action genre is nothing to rave or rant about .Action is actually worse than Tashan here. Deepika does quite well .Mithun is quite okay .Ranvir shorey is passable . Overall a total disaster .Avoid it! 0.5/5

Having exams didnt deter my determination from watching CC2C. Having the weekend off for an open paper i set forth with my friend for the first day first show. If u ask me if it was worth the hype... i dont know... Read below and u judge :-) The story is nothing new.. a powerful villain , suffering villagers, twin children seperated at birth , a silly , bordering on stupidity hero ,a kungfu trainer and the all knowing ,good hearted father and a money minded back stabbing friend . Put all these together and u have yourself a movie !! The plot is so thin and predictable that i am avoiding mentioning it at all !! ( a first for me !! ) About the performances , Akshay kumar as the bumbling fool is good b Chandni Chowk to China ut i was always aware of the fact that it was akshay playing the role, ie i didnt ’feel’ the character he was playing at most times. Deepika Padukone has nothing much to do , but she almost pulls off some unnecessary stunts. Gordon liu as hojo truly shines but they put some unwanted and untasteful scenes if you may to show his evil side. ROger Yuan as the hinidi speaking police cum kung fu trainer is average. Ranvir shorey irritates and Mithun da provides justice to the small role provided. Not to forget the side chinese characters who does what they are expected to do. The songs are unwanted but the cinematography is excellent. I cannot predict as of now if the movie will be a hit as i have noticed that most movies in which the main lead is an idiot works well , i never know why... maybe because some relate to them or maybe because some feel good about the fact that they arent as idotic as him , but it always works... its a theory i have been trying to prove, i mean check it out why is it that Joey from friends was one of the most popular characters ?? Or what about dumb and dumber ? Bedazzled ?? or our very own RNBDJ where though SRK wasnt an idiot he was clearly a geek ?? I am out of examples at the moment but if u think about it you know its true. The world just relates to a loser guy !! Ah getting back to CC2C , negatives aside there are some good scenes and dialogues which tries to redeem it. I have but one advice for you guys.... watch the movie with the same sensibility and expectation with which you watched kung fu hustle. Given not much options to choose from this week go ahead and watch , but just dont expect too much if anything out of it

A huge letdown. Everything from story, screenplay, execution to acting is a sure disaster. I think Akshay and Deepika did a good job at stunts but that couldn't save the film. Alongwith good action, it had to have storyline because thats the backbone of any film so its just total loss. Nothing to watch for. . . . . just a shame!
