When was the last time we heard a movie sound track that contained 13 songs and each one of them happened to be almost a masterpiece? The only such albums I can think of which were so good in last decade or so are “Jism”, “Life in a Metro”, “Jub we met” and few more. And now an immensely pleasant surprise comes in the form of sound track of Nagesh Kukoonoor’s upcoming film “Aashayein”.
No one would’ve associated any particular expectations from the album of this John Abraham starrer film, which has been in production since a few years now. But the album comes as a complete surprise, with each of its songs easily qualified to be included in “the best of” category.
Nagesh does a commendable job in distributing the songs among three different music composers, namely Salim-Salman, Pritam and Sheraz Uppal. All three manage to give the best of their creativity in their relative songs, with melody being the trump card of all the compositions. Lyrics are highly meaningful in all the songs with keeping the poetic touch alive through out.
The album is such that it is extremely difficult to rate any of the tracks above the others, yet I’m listing down the tracks in the sequence of the best coming first. With this said, none of the 13 tracks (with 4 remixes, 2 re-prizes and 7 original songs) is lesser in quality by any means.
1. Shukriya Zindagi (composer: Salim-Salman; Lyrics: Mir Ali Hussain ; Singer : Shafqat Amant Ali) : High on melody and poetic lyrics, this beautifully composed track is immaculately sung by Shafqat. The rendition has a lot of emotion with lyrics suggesting staying optimism in the worst of situations in life. This track is a glistening Gem in all aspects. There is also a short version, which is equally impressive.
2. Mera Jeena Hey Kya (composer: Pritam ; Lyrics : Sameer ; Singer : Neeraj Shridhar): Currently being aired as the promo of the movie, this track brings back Pritam’s magnificent compositions of “Life in a Metro”. Lyrics by Sameer though not ground-breaking yet work well for the track. Neeraj brings in a perfect rendition with an amazing combination of energy and tenderness. Another winner and “chartbuster” written all over it.
3. Chala Aaya Pyar (composer: Salim-Salman; Lyrics: Mir Ali Hassan ; singer : Mohit Chohan) : This song is truly amazing in all aspects. Mir Ali Hassan’s lyrics are drenched in poetic delicacies. Mohit Chohan’s vocals are extremely soothing on ears and the composition hits your heart. Amazing track in entirety.
4. Pal Mein Mila Jahan (composer: Salim-Salman ; Lyrics : Mir Ali Hassan ; Singers : Shreya Goshal and Shankar Mahadevan): I cant recall a pure tragic song this good ever since “Merey Khwabon ka har aik naqsh (Jism)”. Salim-Salman compose a number really high on melody with excellent lyrics and perfect singing. There are two separate versions of the song; both solo. Sheray Goshal sings the first while Shankar sings the second. Both of them bring a lot of feeling in their rendition. Probably the best composition in years belonging to this category.
5. Dilkash Dildar Dunya (composer: Pritam; Lyrics: Kumar; Singer: Shaan & Tulsi Kumar): Another brilliant composition, high on melody, sung beautifully by both singer. Especially Shaan shines with his velvety vocals. Another chartbuster material.
6. Ab Mujh ko Jeena (composer: Salim-Salman ; Lyrics : Mir Ali Hussain ; Singer : Zubeen Garg) : High on enthusiasm and energy, this Zubeen sung track is another winner. With optimism spilling all through its runtime, the song carries on the flawless stream of this album.
7. Rabba (composer, Lyricist & singer: Sheraz Uppal): Appearing in the end of the list doesn’t mean at all that this track is lesser in any sense. The Pakistani singer lends one of his old domestic hits to this track works up to the mark in all three departments of the song. With a typical touch of Pakistani pop, this track has the merits to be there in any album as the leading number.
Overall: With each and every track of the album being a masterpiece in its own self, this album proves to be the best of the year so far by quite a significant margin. It is one of those albums which have potential of becoming a hit on their own merits, irrespective of the hype about the movie. It deserves all the promotion in order to make people familiar with it, and if this is done successfully then, this may turn out to be the next “Life in a Metro” in making.
Highly recommended for true music lovers. This is as flawless as a music album can become.
