Pawan Kalyan receives honour as ‘Abhinava Krishnadevaraya’ in Udupi; actor-politician says Bhagavad Gita is “a counsellor for the digital age”

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and actor Pawan Kalyan received a rare honour at the valedictory ceremony of the month-long Bhagavadgitosava in Udupi, where he was bestowed with the title ‘Abhinava Krishnadevaraya’ for his commitment to promoting spiritual values. The actor-politician addressed the gathering with a powerful message aimed at the youth, urging Gen Z to view the Bhagavad Gita not as a ritualistic text but as a practical guide capable of offering clarity during moments of pressure, confusion and emotional fatigue.

Calling today’s digital world a “constant Kurukshetra,” Kalyan described the Gita as a mentor and moral compass for anyone navigating modern complexities. He highlighted its relevance beyond religious boundaries, saying its teachings act as an anchor during depression, loneliness and decision-making dilemmas.

Switching between Kannada and English during his speech, Kalyan reaffirmed the enduring strength of Sanātana Dharma. He countered historical predictions that Western education would diminish India’s spiritual ethos, emphasising that the Vedas, the Gita and Dharmic philosophy continue to shape the country’s moral foundation. He praised Udupi as a “powerhouse of spirituality” and commended Puttige Math for its efforts to spread the Gita’s teachings, even joining their initiative to create and distribute one crore handwritten copies.

For Kalyan, the Gita remains a science of life, one that teaches balance in both triumph and setback—principles he said have influenced not only his personal journey but also his public life. He described the scripture as the “highest manifesto of humanity,” drawing parallels between its philosophical essence and the values embedded in the Indian Constitution.

He also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s gesture of gifting a copy of the Gita to Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling it a timely reminder of India’s spiritual heritage during a tense global climate. Kalyan further encouraged the community to practise Dharmic values through tangible actions such as cow protection and local support initiatives, adding that the Gita must be lived, not merely recited.

Spiritual leaders, including Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji, echoed his sentiments and proposed the inclusion of Madhwacharya’s teachings and the Bhagavad Gita in Andhra Pradesh school curricula.

The honour came at a time when Pawan Kalyan’s professional journey continues to draw strong interest from fans. While his political responsibilities remain at the forefront, followers are eagerly tracking updates on his ongoing film commitments and the future trajectory of his cinematic career—making this recognition not only a spiritual milestone but also a moment of renewed visibility for the star across both worlds.
