Remembering Sridevi Kapoor and her intangible affair with timeless elegance, one saree at a time!

Beautiful, flawless, radiant and elegant – Sridevi Kapoor embodied all of this and much more! Defying age and striding with that signature flair of sophistication, Sridevi was a certified style icon and infused life in the fabulous Indian nine-yard with her eternal persona. She also resorted to taking those measures style risks, all whilst dabbling with classics and was an apt muse to some of the feted Indian designers, like Manish Malhotra, also her favourite and Sabyasachi. As a fashion-conscious veteran, Sridevi perfected her saree styles with a stunning but subtle beauty game, making us gawk at her with renewed awe every time she stepped out. A 26-year long hiatus saw her make a comeback in Gauri Shinde’s English Vinglish in 2012 followed by the role of a strong, resilient and fierce mother in Boney Kapoor’s Mom last year. On her birth anniversary today, we love nothing more than reminiscing some of her most stunning style moments in the saree over the years. As a muse whose innate sensibilities blended seamlessly with quite a few fashion stylists like Ami Patel, Sanjay Kumar and Eshaa Amiin, Sridevi Kapoor has always been a delight.

The Eternal Saree Muse – Sridevi Kapoor

Nobody can forget the stunning imagery of Sridevi dancing in the rain wearing a bright blue saree in Mr. India on Kaate Nahi Kat Te Ye Din Ye Raat. Notching up the glamour quotient with each saree, jog down the memory lane with us and revisit Sridevi’s saree-licious moments. Sridevi draped a resplendent typical Toran sari in a classic Bengali style from Swati and Sunaina. Traditional jadau and polki jhumkas, necklace, and bangles were worthy accompaniments finishing out the look with an updo and subtle makeup. Sridevi astounded us with a Maharashtrian navwari drape - a bright blue, red and orange bordered creation from Madhurya accessorizing it with earrings and necklace from Jaipur gems and a nath from Waman Hari Pethe Sons. An elegant updo adorned with a gajra and stunning makeup rounded out her look.

The Sabyasachi Muse – Sridevi Kapoor

For the promotions of Mom, Sridevi donned a floral printed saree from The Spring Couture 2017 collection with jhumkis from Kishandas jewelry rounding out the look with a braided updo, and subtle makeup. Sridevi looked stunning in a classic hand painted floral saree from Sabyasachi’s Udaipur Collection of Spring Couture 2017 with a chunky choker necklace from Kishandas Jewellery, subtle makeup and an elegant updo with a centre parting.

The Manish Malhotra Muse – Sridevi Kapoor

For Anushka Sharma – Virat Kohli’s wedding reception, Sridevi was a vision in blue in a Pashmina velvet saree - a regal traditional real zari tilla featuring original embroidery from Kashmir. Minimal jewellery and subtle makeup rounded out her look. For Diwali 2017, Sridevi wore an antique silver soft organza saree with an embroidered blouse. A chunky necklace and an updo complimented her subtle makeup. Sridevi chose a soft blue saree with an antique embroidered border accessorizing it with Firoza earrings and bracelet from Sunita Shekhawat fine jewellery, an elegant updo and a flawless makeup.

For her appearance on a reality show, it was a champagne coloured saree with a purple brocade blouse and an emerald set from Mehernosh Heeramaneck. Sridevi looked magnificent in a striped saree featuring floral thread work finishing out the look with simple makeup and open hair. Sridevi looked resplendent in a pink silk saree with opulent jewellery, a chic hairdo and a potli bag. Sridevi draped a white saree, upping the look with bangles, earrings, simple makeup and sleek hair. Sridevi looked fabulous in a ‘valley of flowers’ inspired printed saree as she rounded out the look with statement earrings and simple makeup.
