Introducing Charu Shankar who played Ranbir Kapoor’s mother in Animal

In Animal, amid the chaotic relationship of a father-son, caught in the midst of this drama is a mother whose silences have spoken louder than her words. Essaying this role with conviction is none other than Charu Shankar whose continues to speak with her expressions rather than her words as she is stuck between a father who neglects his son and a son who is obsessed with his father, and her role has garnered much appreciation. But what do we know about Charu as an actress?

Well let us remind you that Charu Shankar, earlier was best known for her role as Indira Gandhi in the Sony Liv web series Rocket Boys. We hear that initially, the director of Animal, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, had doubts about casting Charu for the role. However, when Charu showcased her remarkable transformation to Indira Gandhi, SRV was left impressed. He immediately decided to cast her as Jyoti in Animal. Among her various roles, Charu too considers her portrayal of Indira Gandhi in Rocket Boys as her favourite.

 

Speaking of her journey in the film industry, it began with the internationally acclaimed film, The Darjeeling Limited, directed by Wes Anderson. The film went on to achieve cult status, further boosting her credibility as an actress. She has also been an integral part of shows like Delhi Crime and Aarya. In fact, the actress has also had the privilege of working with director, Mira Nair, many times in films like The Reluctant Fundamentalist and A Suitable Boy.

 

 

Among her upcoming projects, Charu will also be essaying a key role in the soon-to-release Broadway show ‘Monsoon Wedding Musical’.

 

Apart from acting, Charu is also immensely talented in the field of dancing and singing. She is a trained dancer along with being a classical singer, as well as has gained experience in martial arts. She has a passion for women's health and fitness and is a qualified ACE fitness expert along with having an additional qualification in pre-natal and post-natal fitness. In fact, we hear that when Charu is not acting, she is involved with her clients who are either pregnant or recovering from pregnancy.
